[ Edit this paragraph] Synopsis
Lang Kavik was originally a promising officer, but he lost his legs in the Vietnam War. He began to give up on himself and often took it out on his family. After he left his hometown, he looked at himself and found out how many lives this war had taken, and for whom only? Unable to forgive his motherland, he decided to oppose the war and questioned the country that betrayed him ...
Lang Keweike liked to fight with his friends in the Woods when he was young, and he dreamed of becoming a real man one day. On July 4, 1956, Lang was riding on his father's shoulder to watch the parade of American Independence Day, which made him very excited. Once, Lang's girlfriend Donna gave him a baseball cap, and Lang won the game with a confident smile on his face.
growing up, Lang admires and yearns for the president's speech full of war fanaticism, and an impulse of challenge and sacrifice sprouted in his heart. In an interstate wrestling match, Lang was thrown down, and tears welled up in his eyes. After that, Lang decided to give up the chance of going to college to join the army. In the pain of contradiction, he rushed to the middle school gymnasium in the rain to say goodbye to his lover Donna.
Lang came to the battlefield in Vietnam and witnessed the shooting of Vietnamese civilians by American troops. He rushed into the house desperately to rescue the injured women and babies. In a scuffle, he accidentally killed his good friend Wilson, but the lieutenant colonel told Lang, who was in pain, that it was "each has his own destiny." Since then, Lang was shot and wounded, and was taken to the Veterans Hospital. He was told that he was paralyzed from the waist down and would spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
In 1969, when Lang returned to his hometown, some people regarded him as a patriotic hero, while others turned a deaf ear to him, which made him sad and sad. However, Lang, who was in a wheelchair, still persisted in his loyal belief in the war in the United States.
In the university campus where the anti-war movement started, Lang and Donna met again. Donna, who was shocked and saddened, decided that the war was wrong and must be stopped. Lang, who has lost his sexual ability, deeply loves Donna. He recalls the past and is full of sadness.
After a bar conflict, Lang finally realized the cruel reality behind the war lies. Soon, he was sent to the Mexican military sanatorium for recuperation. In the dark brothel, the gentleness and thoughtfulness of the prostitute Elena made Lang feel mixed feelings and burst into tears, and his mood cheered up slightly. However, the nightmare of Vietnam War still appears in his mind from time to time. In order to atone, he went to mourn Wilson's tombstone. In order to stop the war and massacre, Lang finally woke up and joined the anti-war movement.
In 1972, when a party was held in Miami Beach, Lang and some veterans entered the meeting place. He made a public anti-war declaration and was kicked out by the secret police. But Lang, who was widely supported, shook his wheelchair unyieldingly, commanded the public and rushed forward.
Four years later, new york held the Democratic National Convention. Lang firmly and excitedly took the podium, and he recalled the past. Amid the cheers of the crowd, Lang held out his left hand and made a V-shaped sign of victory.
The hero, Ron Nicoway, was paralyzed by injury, suffering from physical pain in the hospital and mental torture when he returned to his hometown. The extremely frustrated days made him so decadent and frustrated that the values he supported collapsed.
This film is the second part of Si Tong's Vietnam War Trilogy, which tells a true story to people. Luo is an athlete full of patriotic passion. Despite the opposition of his family, he resolutely joined the US Navy and went to Vietnam to fight. The war life at sea plunged Luo and his partners into confusion and confusion, and Luo gradually lost himself. Ruthless bullets hit him, and Luo, who was half paralyzed, was sent back to the motherland and spent a nightmare in a veterans hospital. After leaving the hospital, he went to Mexico, drinking all day and living a dissolute life. However, the perseverance buried in Luo's heart gradually cheered him up, and finally he was tempered into an active anti-war propagandist through hard struggle.
