What is graphic design?

Graphic design is also called visual communication design. The definition of graphic design generally refers to artistry and professionalism. Graphic design refers to the design activities in plane space, which mainly involves the design of various elements in two-dimensional space and the layout design of these elements, including font design, layout design, illustration design and photography design. The core of all these contents lies in transmitting information, guiding and persuading, and its expression is realized by modern printing technology. Design is an artistic creation activity based on commercial environment, which is different from the art of designers or design groups. Design is a kind of work or occupation, and it is a modeling activity with aesthetic feeling, use and commemorative function. Design is based on business and the public, and serves them, thus producing commercial value and artistic value, which is different from the appreciation range of individuals or some groups of art.

Graphic design, also known as visual communication design, takes "vision" as a way of communication and expression, and creates and combines symbols, pictures and words in various ways to make a visual expression to convey ideas or information. Graphic designers may use professional skills, such as typesetting, visual arts, page layout and computer software, to achieve the purpose of creative planning. Graphic design can usually refer to the process of making (designing) and the final finished work.

Common uses of graphic design include logos (trademarks and brands), publications (magazines, newspapers and books), print advertisements, posters, billboards, graphic elements of websites, logos and product packaging. For example, product packaging may include trademarks or other works of art, arranged texts and pure design elements, such as images, shapes, sizes and colors with uniform styles. Combination is one of the most important features of graphic design, especially when the product uses pre-existing materials or multiple elements.
