I hope there will be more people of different ages with toothache in the future.

People of different sexes participate in this project.

I want to really encourage everyone to face themselves,' he said.

This is a sexual problem. ?

This series of photos has received enthusiastic attention and support from netizens.

It was also exhibited in Sanyingtang, Xiamen and Grand Palace, Paris.

Toothache said he never thought he could shoot for so long.

For him who has suffered from depression since high school,

The initial starting point is to express yourself, and then slowly,

Become a mutual help, sustenance and companionship. ?

One had a toothache in Hangzhou,

Talked about the story of him and the girl under his camera 100.

100th girl

This girl is Fang Ya, from Nanjing, and she is 23 years old. She suffered from depression in the year when her grandfather died, when she was a freshman.

She was brought up by her grandfather when she was a child. My parents are doing business in another city, but they only brought their brother. In Fangfang's view, they are a regular family of three, and they are the lonely one.

In 20 13, grandpa died suddenly. She began to live alone at home, going to school, eating and living alone.

She may only meet her parents a few times a year, and there is no communication when she meets them. She remembers her younger brother's puppy love and her parents would make fun of him. They never care about things in her life and only give her living expenses every month.

When I was in high school, my classmates all said that they admired her and said that she was the richest person in the class. However, when she saw that after the evening self-study, people from other families came to pick them up, and only she attended the parent-teacher meeting, always alone.

At the worst of her illness, she had 10 electroconvulsive therapy within one and a half months. She said it felt a bit like deleting people's memories in science fiction movies, and the whole person became empty.

One week before the operation, she was very excited about taking medicine, so she talked about having an operation everywhere on social networks. She told me that at that time, I really hoped that someone could write to me privately or call me to ask me what was wrong. ? Now that I think about it, she feels particularly ashamed.

Her parents actually knew about her illness, but they didn't take it to heart, and they didn't quite understand what depression was, thinking it would be just like a cold.

When filming this year, my teeth were in good and stable condition. But this made her very afraid, afraid that she would find herself again sooner or later.

This is also the reason why she applied to participate in the filming of Wrinkled Fog and wanted to record her current state. She said something that moved me? In this way, the next time I collapse, I can remember that I was sober and I was better. ?

Yaya is the100th girl I photographed. I have been filming this project for three years, and I have seen too many young people who are deeply depressed like Yaya.

The starting point is yourself.

The starting point of filming depressed patients is actually myself.

I was diagnosed with depression in high school.

When I was in senior three, I longed to be a soldier, but I didn't get it for physical reasons. Later, I wanted to study physical education, but my parents felt that there was no future, so they wouldn't let me go, forcing me to study for another year in senior three. At that time, I felt suffocated every day and was not interested in anything.

One day, I thought it was a morbid condition, so I went to see a psychiatrist behind my parents' backs.

I remember the doctor was surprised to see me at that time, because in my hometown of Shanxi, everyone had no awareness of mental health, let alone minors.

At that time, I was only slightly depressed, so I took pocket money to buy medicine and took medicine myself until I went to college.

It was not until these years that I began to tell my family slowly that they just said they knew about it and didn't take it seriously. They thought I was under a little pressure at most, and I would get better gradually.

Toothache: on the public's misunderstanding of depression.

Like my family, people still have many misunderstandings about depression.

So when my depression recurred on 20 17, I want to show this emotion seriously? It hangs over you like a fog, and you can't get rid of it, but it is unpredictable, sometimes and sometimes. I named this project "Wrinkle Fog".

From the very beginning, I made a public solicitation on Weibo, and more than 300 people contacted me one after another. So far, I have photographed more than 65,438+000 people who are troubled by depression.

The girls who came to see me were all happy on the surface.

In fact, when I was recruiting, I didn't limit my age and gender, but almost all the people who came to me were young women. The oldest is over 30 years old, the youngest was born in 2004, and most of them are after 90 s and 00 s.

This group is most willing to show themselves and express themselves. In my opinion, this state is good. Because only by facing this problem directly and being willing to communicate can we come out slowly.

Toothache and the girl's first sight

Most of these girls are moderately depressed, and some are severe, but when they came to me, they all seemed very happy.

They want others to think that they are doing well and never take the initiative to say that they have depression. There are other reasons besides thinking that others will not understand.

A girl who impressed me deeply, Xiao Yi, sat alone in a hard seat for more than ten hours and went from Shijiazhuang to Wuhan to find me to shoot. Only my sister and grandmother took care of her since childhood, but she didn't tell anyone after she got sick. She said that her sister was married and her grandmother was in poor health and didn't want to give them any trouble.

When shooting, I always chat with them first, and sometimes I shoot while chatting, hoping to show their truest appearance and record their truest emotions.

Macey came to take photos with me from Hainan on 20 18. She was telling her story, and then she couldn't help crying. So I took this picture. She studied psychology herself, but she still couldn't heal herself.

Rare photos, I let her release her emotions in her own living space, so I don't care about the camera. I want to take a snapshot.

What causes depression?

After filming young depressed girls for so many years, I think most of their sexual problems are from families.

The first is the divorce of parents. Many parents keep secrets from their children after divorce until one day the children find out, which will be a great blow. Parents have a new family after divorce, and they will care less about their children.

This girl Annie, her parents divorced because her father cheated on her and brought her cheating partner home. Often her parents leave after quarreling in the middle of the night, leaving her alone at home.

Once a thief came in, and she hid there and dared not speak. Later, she told her mother that her mother only replied that she would just lock the window next time. ?

The second is domestic violence. Gege's father is a civil servant. He looks like a good man outside, but he will beat her and her mother when he gets home. She said that her greatest ideal in life is to have a house of her own, a safe place for her.

She has been depressed since high school, but no one is in charge in her small county, so she has never been treated.

The third is infringement. 20 18 when I filmed Fly, she was still in high school. She was harassed and violated by her relatives since she was a child, but her parents never cared about this problem.

She is extremely insecure and always feels that others are spying on her and want to do something to her. So when shooting, I put several humanoid models wearing raincoats beside her, and she looked at the camera helplessly in the middle.

Besides family background, emotional experience is also a more important factor.

The most common thing is that boys cheat, which is the case with the first girl I photographed. She has been with her ex for a long time, living together all the time and relying on him very much. I asked her to write some words she wanted to express on paper and wrap her body, which was a kind of venting.

Recently, I wrote a letter to a girl, also in college, because I found my boyfriend was having an affair with someone else and wanted to break up. As a result, the boy blocked her door every day, harassed her and hurt her very much.

And physical and verbal violence.

Eiko is a student in my photography class. She has always felt inferior because of her figure. Usually wearing a mask and not talking to others, often alone.

One day, she suddenly told me that she wanted to take part in the filming, saying that she cried when she looked at the photos I took at home, and she felt very moved and wanted to show herself bravely.

Linlin is a model now, but she used to be fat and was laughed at on campus. A boy she used to like told her that you liked me, which made me feel embarrassed.

In the photo, I asked her to cover her ears. In the environment wrapped in plastic sheets, I wanted her to block some external sounds.

Most of these girls were injured in childhood or youth, and the shadow left by them has always been with them. Because in the process of growing up, no one helped them and no one asked them what they were thinking.

Shooting this series, I not only want to let the public know about depression, but also want some parents to reflect on their lack of psychological education for their children.

Wrinkled Fog is on display at Sanying Pavilion in Xiamen.

Mutual assistance, support and companionship

20 17 to 2020, I actually didn't think I could shoot for so long.

In the future, I really hope that more people of different ages and sexes can participate in this project and encourage more people to face their emotions directly, because this is a * * * problem.

Some girls sent me messages at the most difficult time, saying that my toothache was unbearable. I said you must insist, because we haven't filmed yet, which is a great sustenance for them.

Many girls I have photographed will take my picture as their heads. When I do an exhibition, they can still see some of their own status on the spot, and I think this is also a longer-term companionship.

I keep in touch with most people. Sometimes I brush their circle of friends and see that most of them are developing in a positive direction. The state I want to get out of is actually an encouragement to me.

Our help is mutual. They're still insisting, so I'll keep filming.

Ren Ke is the founder of the Institute of Depression and the author of your first self-help guide to depression.

Ren Ke suffered from domestic violence since childhood, and was diagnosed with severe depression and moderate and severe anxiety at the beginning of 20 18. Not only did I not get the understanding and support from my family, but my father scolded me that having a daughter like you was the biggest shame in my life? .

In those days, her friends' constant concern and encouragement gave her hope. She started by sharing her diary of depression recovery, and slowly set up a depression research institute? This community for people with depression focuses on spiritual and psychological education.

A person and Ren Ke talked about the current situation of depression in China and some basic self-help knowledge. The following is a selection of interviews.

Q: one A: Anything will do.

Q: What is the general situation of depression in China at present?

A: According to the data of the World Health Organization, the number of patients with depression in China has reached 90 million, and the incidence rate is as high as 5% ~ 6%, and it has been increasing year by year in recent years. Due to the lack of medical resources in the field of mental health, the recognition rate of mental health diseases such as depression is only 2 1%. Nearly 80% of patients with depression have not been found? At the same time, 90% of patients with depression have not received professional treatment. This is related to the lack of professional psychiatrists in many towns and the relatively expensive treatment of depression.

According to our latest survey in 2020, 72% of patients were diagnosed before the age of 25, and most of them developed depressive symptoms after puberty. The lifetime prevalence rate of adolescent depression has reached 15-20%.

Q: What are the main causes of depression? What are the main symptoms of depression?

A: There are many factors leading to depression, which vary from person to person. Under normal circumstances, the reasons for minors will be more concentrated and easy to judge. However, regardless of age, family-related problems are the primary reason for patients to be admitted to hospital on their own. Emotional problems and traumatic experiences are also common sources of depression.

The symptoms of each patient may be different, but the main symptoms are long-term, persistent and stable depression, loss of interest or fun in activities that are of interest to you on weekdays, lack of energy, and some additional symptoms such as inferiority complex and unreasonable self-blame. 13- 19-year-old teenagers are prone to extreme behavior, negative attitude and refuse to communicate.

Q: What effect does depression have on patients' work and life?

A: According to our big data survey, most patients said that it was difficult to continue working and their lives became unstable, which was the most influential thing for them. Because depression patients generally have cognitive dysfunction, especially executive and attention dysfunction.

A large part of the underage patients we come into contact with are forced to drop out of school. Because of the long course of depression and easy recurrence, they may not be able to continue their studies and return to normal life for several years.

Q: Why do many people with depression choose to hide their illness?

A: When investigating the reasons why patients don't want to talk, we found that they are afraid of others' incomprehension. Worried about discrimination? It is also an important reason why patients can't talk. Therefore, in addition to correct popular science knowledge and scientific treatment methods, the influence of public context on patients with depression is also significant. Shame and shame will reduce their help-seeking rate and treatment compliance, affect their rehabilitation and even lead to suicide.

According to our survey, only about 35% of patients said that they got better treatment after diagnosis. 52% of patients said that few people can save themselves when they encounter difficulties. Get the support of friends? It is the primary reason why patients feel better. Family? It is an important reason that affects the trend of depression.

Q: What is the treatment for depression?

A: Be sure to find a professional doctor and try to choose a hospital listed in the local mental health center.

Medication is the first step of treatment. Don't stop taking drugs without authorization. Antidepressants are not addictive as long as they are not added at will. Experts suggest taking the drug for 6- 18 months for the first attack, 2-3 years for the second attack, and lifelong medication for the third and above.

Be sure to stabilize before assisting psychotherapy. After professional psychological counseling, at least more than 75% people can improve their symptoms. At present, the average price of psychological counseling market is 400-800 yuan/hour. At the same time, there are some public psychological counseling, such as the national hotline1235400-161-9995, online 525 psychological network, Yidianling and Depression Research Institute also have public popular science knowledge, and many online communities have been established.

As far as patients themselves are concerned, the three common misunderstandings of locking, lying down and crying are actually useless. Exercise is an effective method to treat depression, which has been proved by scientific research. There are some simple and feasible treatments, such as reading, keeping a diary, watching movies and listening to music. Secondly, whole wheat bread, snacks, pumpkins, bananas, chocolates and milk are also some foods that can provide necessary nutrition for the brain and help the brain effectively relieve depression.

Q: How to help friends/family members suffering from depression?

A: You can try the following methods.

Understand the symptoms of depression;

Encourage patients to actively treat;

Be wary of their extreme thoughts, such as suicide;

Affirm some positive aspects of them, don't deny or criticize them;

Make a plan and invite him/her to do something together, but don't force it;

Listen to them carefully, but avoid giving advice or making judgments. Listening and understanding is a powerful therapeutic tool.
