However, nothing is absolute. Sometimes, just when you think the sun is quite unsuitable for shooting and are ready to put away your camera, you can get some unexpected results.

First, the light source that people love and hate: backlight

Backlight, especially low-angle backlight at sunset, often brings strong shadow contrast on the subject, resulting in great difference in light ratio. There are always many details that can't be taken into account in the light receiving and backlight, not to mention backlight shooting (hint: silhouette is also one of the available skills). Even those high-end lenses worth tens of thousands of yuan have good anti-backlight performance, and glare and autofocus obstacles will inevitably appear in the case of complete backlight, which will be more serious for ordinary lenses. However, everything is not absolute. As long as it is used properly and combined with good composition, backlight shooting can also achieve beautiful results. When shooting wide-angle scenery, macro and even portraits, you can use the backlight level to obtain different effects.

Second, the influence of light on backlit portraits

By measuring the bright background without filling the foreground at all, a strong contour effect and a good rendering atmosphere can be obtained. In the backlight scene, the character's hair will be more obvious and beautiful, the edge line of the body will also be presented, and the whole character will become more three-dimensional. This is also an important reason why many people in the field of photography like backlighting.

Third, HDR.

HDR = high dynamic range = high dynamic range = When the difference between the brightest and darkest parts of an object is particularly large, turning on HDR in photography can overcome the shortcoming of limited dynamic range of most camera sensors and superimpose multiple photos with different exposures into one; In a word, HDR can enrich the details of the bright, dark and bright/dark parts.

When do you use HDR?

It probably includes but is not limited to: outdoor backlit portraits, the scenery under strong light (blue sky, white clouds and fragrant grass are the most classic), and indoor shooting when there is strong light through the window.

Better turn off HDR!

It probably includes, but is not limited to, shooting objects in motion. At that time, the lighting conditions were already very good (the distribution was balanced, bright enough, and there was no sudden highlight).
