How to check knee joint with CT

On the CT scan image of normal knee joint, in most cases, the position of bone relative to femur is biased towards lateral condyle. The middle part of ilium and the lower end of femur are CT-shaped, and the cross section of anterior cruciate ligament can be seen at the inner edge of lateral condyle. At the level of the lower edge of the patella, the patellar ligament is in front of the femur, and the cross sections of the posterior cruciate ligament and the anterior cruciate ligament can be seen between the medial and lateral condyles. The femoral intercondylar fossa is horizontal below, the medial and lateral condyles are separated in a kidney shape, and the exposed tibial eminence is between the condyles. At the level of joint space, the medial and lateral meniscus edges are smooth and uniform cartilage images. When the long axis of the anterior and posterior cruciate ligament is parallel to the scanning plane, it shows a uniform banded soft tissue image.

Intra-articular synovial chondromatosis is characterized by the fusion of tiny spots in the joint capsule into spherical calcified shadows. The CT examination of the knee joint can also clearly show the muscles, tendons, ligaments and synovial folds around the knee joint.
