Zhang Chaoqun is a versatile artist who has been engaged in puppet films for a long time and is rich in artistic talent. Zhang Chaoqun was born in Nanchang on August 25, 1921.

Character biography: When he was fourteen, his sister Zhang Manping took him to Peking to work as a young actor in the China Travel Theater and help manage props. After Shanghai Film Studio established its factory, he returned to Shanghai Film Studio to participate in the filming of the film "Farmhouse". After the filming of this film was completed, he was transferred to the art film team to engage in puppet photography. The first puppet film he filmed as a photographer was "Peace Dove", but it was not released because the content was not consistent with the situation at the time.

At the end of 1951, he joined the color experimental group of Shanghai Film Technology Department to overcome technical difficulties in color photography and printing. As a result of his continuous hard work, he finally produced the first color puppet film "Little Heroes" with the help of the color experimental team. This was the first color film in the history of Chinese art films. His first puppet film as a director, "The Careless Fatty", reflected children's interests in life and taught them to be careful and conscientious in their work and not to be careless. It allowed children to receive education through laughter. He has directed films such as "A New Football" and "Little Brothers", setting a precedent for puppet films to reflect the lives of modern children.

In 1960, during the technological innovation and technological revolution movement, Zhang Chaoqun saw popular foreign three-dimensional films. He also made a bold exploration of this, trying to turn a sports fairy tale that criticized pride and advocated diligence into The first three-dimensional puppet film "Medal" in China was made, adding a new style to the puppet film. "The Carving of the Dragon", adapted from a folk tale of the Bai ethnic group in Yunnan, is one of the art film tribute programs for the 10th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. In this film, he is one of the directors and also the photographer. In order to enhance the legendary mythology of the film, he used special effects to make the puppets equipped with iron scales and claws, sparkling and flying in the air lifelikely, which was appreciated by the audience. The film also participated in the Bucharest International Film Festival and won the Puppet Film Silver Award.

He and another director co-produced the Fujian Longxi bag puppet show with excellent tradition - the stage puppet art documentary "The Palm Show" (starring Yang Sheng, a veteran artist with superb performance skills and well-known at home and abroad ), also won the Excellence Award at the Melbourne International Film Festival in Australia in 1964. He has also filmed stage puppets and artistic documentaries such as "Chinese Puppet Art", "Bingdilian", "Shiwan Pottery Art", "Mountain Village New Seedlings", etc., which fully reflects his serious attitude towards implementing the "Double Hundred" policy and continuous innovation. .
