MFA application requirements
Applicants must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
Personal statement or goal statement: A goal statement of 250 to 500 words, mainly describing your reasons for applying and expected goals in your studies
Note: All application materials will be submitted to SVA All and will not be returned
Resume: Applicants are required to submit a resume, including art-related experience, such as research, awards received, and works participated in exhibitions.
Official transcripts: Applicants are required to provide official transcripts from university or college studies; transcripts must be stamped by the school where the student attends and placed in an unopened envelope and submitted together with other application materials; abroad College transcripts must be translated into English and converted to U.S. transcripts
Recommendation Letters: Applicants to all programs (except MFA Design Social Innovation and MPS Fashion Photography) must submit three letters of recommendation from instructors or practicing Professionals.
Please note: Applicants to the MPS Fashion Photography Program are only required to submit two letters of recommendation. Applicants to the MFA-Designed Social Innovation Program are not required to submit letters of recommendation.
Online applications can now be submitted online. Applicants will be asked to provide an email address and full contact information for the reference.
Letter may also be mailed or delivered with all other supplemental application materials. < /p>
Graduate major introduction and application requirements for each school
Critical Arts and Writing
Writing sample: A typewritten writing sample of 2,500 to 3,000 words is required. The content is relevant to students’ research directions. Submissions of published papers and articles are encouraged.
Interview required
Art Pedagogy
Submit a CD containing 15 to 20 paintings, label them with your name, title and page number, and click Arrange in order.
Work requirements: at least ten indoor art media works, two works using oil painting, sketch, and 3D media technology.
Special courses: At least 30 credits of indoor art, 12 credits of art history, 30 credits of humanities, and required courses other than English
Exams: Humanities are strongly recommended Science Test (LAST), which is a compulsory test for the National Certificate. Submit a copy of LAST transcript

Art practice
15 to 20 static pictures in jpg format. Digital image larger than 1500pjxel, 72pp
Video: files in mov, flv, wmv format, each not exceeding 10 minutes, total size not exceeding 60MB
Audio: mp3 format, each Each session shall not exceed 10 minutes, and the total session shall not exceed 10 MB.
Writing sample: A writing sample of 500 to 750 words, which can be an essay or original article. Describe a personal experience in which art was the centerpiece of your development.

Art Therapy Major
Applicants need to submit a copy of 15 to 20 digital pictures (preferably in jpeg format) or Upload the image to your account in the Graduate Admissions Slide Room.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a wide range of images. In addition to pictures, you can also upload DVDs (NTSC format only)
Special courses: Applicants must have completed at least 18 credits of fine arts and 12 credits of psychology
Interview: required for admission interview. It is best to have an on-site interview, but if you cannot make it to New York for the interview, you can have a telephone interview or video interview
Brand Studies
Applicants need to submit a 750-word short essay to comment on a certain brand choice. Content needs to include: Market relationships, historical importance, allocation of brand equity, creative analysis
Writing sample: Applicants must submit an overview of why they chose this major, their coursework and "brand" What does the concept mean to them and what type of writing sample do they hope to achieve.
Supplementary materials: Any additional materials that outline the applicant’s expertise in the subject are accepted, but are not required, including the following: design portfolio; strategic brand positioning and/or white paper; current presence in the market For any branding effort, write about their contribution in the statement and outline the challenges encountered and the results achieved through their participation.
Interview: Personal interview required. If you are more than 1,000 miles from New York City, you may waive the in-person interview and accept a telephone interview
MFA Computer Arts
Personal Statement: Applicants should indicate their intended field of study, i.e., animation, Animation and digital video, interactive media, installed digital art, or multidisciplinary studies.
Portfolio: Applicants are encouraged to submit a portfolio showcasing their best work, which includes work in a wide range of media.
A DVD (formatted for PC or Macintosh platforms) containing 20 high-quality digital images (JPEG format) and a 3-5 minute sample reel (if applicable). or 20 high quality digital photographic prints (8.5X11). Applicants can submit the URL of their online portfolio.
Critical Theory and the Arts
Personal Statement: Submit a personal statement of approximately 500 words explaining your interest in pursuing an MA in Critical Theory and Artistic Development. Is this your inner choice? What is your current situation and your future goals? The statement includes information about your experiences in life and education, your background in critical theory studies (if any), whether at university or in your own experience in the arts, or other experiences as an artist. What are some important books you have read? What are you reading these days? What do you hope to gain from your studies? How might it affect you? Artists: Include information about your practice and what your concerns are. We are interested in seeing or reading your work, but a portfolio is not required. Please indicate your interest in this major, especially in society, politics, philosophy, and art history. If you come from a particularly independent background - as an independent scholar or writer, as an artist, or have tried a lot of things and want to try something else - don't hesitate to tell us.
Writing Sample: Please submit something you have written, at least a few pages, on any topic. This will help the admissions committee get a feel for your interests and your current situation. Writing can be a college article you publish.
Interview: Interview required. Students who are more than 1,000 miles away from New York may participate in a telephone interview.
Management Practice
Goal Statement: A personal statement of 800-1,000 words, telling us what your interests are in management practice and why you choose to continue studying for a graduate degree in this major. What aspects are of particular interest to you? What relevant experiences have you had that had a crucial impact on you? What book has fascinated you? Your goals for a management career and what you want to do after graduation. Do your best to describe your knowledge of art history and culture, and introduce some of your previous work related to management or cultural practice. If you have a very special experience please tell us.
Proposal: Write a four-page, one-sided proposal for an exhibition or other management project you would like to propose, including a concept summary, location and project list.
Interview: Interview or SKYPE interview required

Students must bring their own Mac with OSX or newer version or a computer with Win7 system or newer version. At the same time, the computer must be equipped with standard software, such as Microsoft Work Suite. The computer can be connected to the school's projector and printer

MFA Design
Portfolio: Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a portfolio that reflects a wide range of design skills and is required to be formatted smoothly and concisely. You can create the following information for each file in your inventory: title, date, medium size or running time, and optional works.

Design Criticism
Short Essay : Applicants are required to submit a type essay (750 words) criticizing a design object, event, or concept.
Writing Sample: Applicants are required to submit a published or unpublished written, typed writing sample of 1,000 to 2,000 words. The content is determined by the applicant, however, this piece should demonstrate the applicant's research and analytical abilities and language facilities. Examples in publications can be from any source, including academic or business publications, books, catalogs or wall text.
Interview: Interview required, if you are more than 1,000 miles away from New York, you can interview by phone
MFA Social Innovation Design
Option 1: Communication Design, Product Design, 3 -D and interaction design, data visualization and system design work. Materials should be included on a CD in Apple OS Xreadable format, labeled with your name.
This folder can contain any of the following: 15 - 25 still images from prints or photography, in JPEG format, not to exceed 1 MB, including a single-page digital slideshow in PDF format, labeled with the name of each image thumbnail and description. Three video files, in Quicktime format, no larger than 5MB each, and no longer than two minutes. A Word document can contain up to 5 websites.
Option 2: Successful cases that reflect the applicant’s experience and reflect social innovation. Three historical cases are complete activities and are enriched with written text explaining the problems, solutions and knots, with thumbnails that can be added for visual elements.
Additional skills: Mastery of design skills and computer applications recommended, including Adobe Creative Suite, After Effects, Apple Final Cut Pro, HTML and Flash. We will not prevent those who do not have mastery of core design applications from applying, but will arrange tutorial sessions.
Interview: Interview required.
Submission of the following items will be considered supplemental: writing sample; video essay, letters of recommendation.
Digital Photography Professional
The imaging portfolio is the most important component of your application. It should represent a cohesive group of 1-3 photographers in style, concept and execution of the work. Images may be from digital or film originals.
*** There are 20 images on CD or via upload in the following format: Digital images must be between 2000 and 3000 pixels in width or height. 15 flat JPG files 5 images with all Photoshop layers, channels, paths unchanged and submitted in TIF or PSD format. If you are using Adobe Lightroom to process the file, please submit the file as a layered file with 5 two layers - the original before and after processing and the label layer. Images should be clean, sharp, the right color, size, and named correctly. We recommend naming the layer TIF or PSD file. Files must be identified as follows: first letter, last name, quantity, for example, jdoe01.jpg.
Documents that ignore the above criteria will not be reviewed. Most importantly, just be excited about submitting your work!

MPS Fashion Photography Major
Applicants must submit a CD or DVD of twenty (20) images or upload their portfolio to their Graduate Admissions SlideRoom account. Essay: Applicants must submit a concise An essay (500 words) on their work and its characterization and relevance, covering the current state of fashion photography and analyzing how their work relates to or refutes it.
Interview: Interview required. The college will contact applicants to schedule an in-person or telephone interview.
MFA Fine Art
Applicants must submit twelve images (JPEG for Macintosh) to the Graduate Admissions SlideRoom account or by mailing a CD. The image format is as follows: Files must be labeled as follows: initials, last name, image number (for example, jdoe_1). Digital images must be at 72 dpi resolution with a width or height of 1500 pixels. Videos and pieces emphasizing time or movement may also be utilized using the Graduate Admissions SlideRoom account or submitted as a separate DVD. The DVD should be no longer than five minutes and should be labeled with the artist's name and title, date and running time of each work on the DVD. Please note: Only NTSC DVD discs are accepted. Printed inventory sheets indicate the size, material and date of each piece.
Please note: The MFA Art Department strongly encourages submissions via SlideRoom. PowerPoint or other types of presentation formats accepted.
MFA Visual Essay Illustration
Applicants must upload materials to their Graduate Admissions SlideRoom account. Personal documents can be created in a SlideRoom account and marked with the following information for each document: title, date, medium size or completion time, and optional works.
Requirements: 20 still image file formats, each file size does not exceed 5MB; file size should be approximately 1280 x 800 pixels, resolution 72 dpi.
Writing Sample: Applicants are also required to submit a typewritten writing sample of 500 to 1,000 words. Content is determined by the applicant.
Additional skills: Applicants must have proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
Interview: An interview is available but not required.
MFA Interaction Design
Applicants must submit interactive design works for work demonstration sites. Possibly a visual interaction design portfolio, but is not required to include at least five projects. You might consider: Demonstrating visual literacy, craftsmanship, process, and design work for corresponding products/services. Study of usability and social sciences, emphasizing concepts and end results. Strategize and write about project communications' audiences, challenges, and outcomes. Code items indicating samples, processes and results. The achievements of project management, the responsibilities you bear, the challenges you encounter, and the problem-solving process.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a case.
The case study should describe a project you have taken on, from concept to completion, detailing: the problem of the project, your approach and results with supporting sketches and images. Emphasize the relationship between process and thinking. PDF format. Case studies can be included as PDF files in your portfolio, or submitted via a separate link (e.g. via Dropbox or Google Drive).
Interview: Interview required. Skype interviews may be requested if traveling more than 1,000 miles from New York City.
MPS Live Action Short Film
All applicants must submit samples of work, whether visual or written.
Visualization work may include video, stills, or mixed media and should be submitted with an accompanying written description.
Written assignments may include a short story or script. The work should follow a narrative structure and express the concept of a core theme.
Visual Portfolio: Applicants must upload their portfolio to the Graduate Admissions SlideRoom account. 20 still images. jpg format, file size does not exceed 5MB each. Upload videos, whether MOV or MPEG4 files, no more than 60MB each in size and no more than 10 minutes in total (regardless of how many videos are submitted). SlideRoom also allows you to enter links to Vimeo, YouTube or SoundCloud. File size should be approximately 1920 x 1080 pixels with a resolution of 72 dpi.
Interview: There is an interview, but it is not required.
MFA Photography, Videography, and Related Media
Portfolio: Applicants must upload their own work (still images and/or videos) to a Graduate Admissions SlideRoom account.
Requirements: 20 still image file formats, each file size does not exceed 5MB; uploaded videos, whether MOV or MPEG4 files, each does not exceed 60MB, and the total length does not exceed 10 minutes (regardless of submission How many videos); file size should be approximately 1920 x 1080 pixels at 72 dpi resolution.
MFA Design Product
You should visualize your portfolio. Can display different aesthetic, formal and conceptual types of work. Regardless of its format, the work requires: Proving that you have the ability to explain the designer's approach and problem-solving in a convincing way. Demonstrating work that you have created personally and that can bring joy to everyone. Please include at least 10 entries. The complexity of these 10 pieces and the actual pieces may vary. Here are some possible project types:
Partial list of research projects: Design objects/artifacts; Crafts/hacks/MODs; Commercial enterprises, concept work, published works; Pro bono initiatives, competition entries. Several of your projects should show the process as well as the work completed, and we want to see how you came to solve the problem, including some decision points along the way. Don’t be afraid to model failure; what matters is what you learned from the failure.
Be sure to include published work (online, in print or exhibition), awards or submissions to competitions, and any other material that demonstrates your commitment and passion for corporate problem solving, celebration and design .
For the versatile designer: We will review your materials for concept development, sketching, iteration, research, problem solving, analytical thinking, strategy, prototypes, demos, and stories.
The Product Design major welcomes candidates without a formal design degree or professional design practice experience. While these candidates' portfolios may not emphasize specific competencies previously listed by professional designers, they must convey the applicant's ability to think acutely and strategically and be adept at leveraging this problem-solving thinking toward success. Please include snapshots of your process, screenshots of the final form of the project, written documents or PDFs, images and any documentation or press reports of the results.
Communication design and graphic skills: In addition to strong strategic, research and 3D abilities, we are particularly interested in candidates with strong 2D skills who can create visually persuasive work. Includes graphic design, typography, animation, branding, advertising, packaging, writing, websites, apps, and other equivalent product elements.
Optional Video Introduction: Applicants are asked to submit an optional, stated webcam video on their profile, 2-3 minutes in length, answering the following questions:
How would you rate the current state of the design industry? Where do you see yourself within that, both now and in the future? What are you most interested in working on? Personal? Between people? Community? politics? worldwide?
MFA Social Documentary
Application materials: Applicants must write a concise and concise documentary plan that they want to shoot (2 to 3 double pages). Be specific and detail the nature of the problem to be solved, the style of description, and the method to be adopted. Know exactly what the audience will see on the screen from start to finish.
