[Introduction to Photography] 09 Focus and Focus Area

Focusing is actually aiming, which means you have to tell the camera what you want to shoot.

The focusing process of a mobile phone is actually focusing by clicking on the screen.

Many cameras also support touch-screen shooting. But in most cases, the camera focuses by pressing the shutter half.

Correct photo-taking steps:

Setting the focus area accurately can make the camera focus on the object you want to shoot more accurately.

For example, when we shoot people, we usually focus on their eyes, so that their eyes are the clearest.

For example, when shooting a small still life, I hope that the camera can focus on an object accurately to ensure that the theme is clear and the other parts of the framing picture are blurred.

If you want to shoot the foreground blur effect, you need to focus on people and blur flowers into foreground.

Canon SLR provides four options: single-point autofocus, (large) area autofocus and 45-point autofocus.

Nikon is called automatic area AF and Sony is called wide area.

This is the default focus area when the camera leaves the factory. When we shoot, it gives all the choices of focusing in the framing picture to the camera, and the camera will automatically select one or several points for focusing.

It has a lot of focus points, which makes it easy to focus, but the choice of focus points is all given to the camera, so the focusing accuracy will be reduced. You can shoot landscapes or big scenes, but it is not suitable for people, still life and close-ups, because you need to accurately locate the focus position at this time.

Nikon medium focus single point AF, Sony medium focus free point: m.

It can only focus on one point in the camera's framing picture, so the focusing accuracy is the highest. Not suitable for people.

For example, if you shoot a person through the guardrail net, blur the guardrail net in the foreground, and use single-point focusing, you can focus on this person.

For example, when shooting flowers, you need to focus on the stamens; When taking close-ups of people, you need to focus on your eyes.

Nikon is called dynamic area AF, and Sony is called area.

It divides all the focal points in the camera's framing picture into several different areas. When we take a picture with the shutter half pressed, the camera will automatically select one or several points in the selected area for focusing.

Large-area autofocus just divides all the focus points in the camera into several areas that are a little larger than regional autofocus.

Its focusing accuracy is between 45-point autofocus and single-point autofocus. Unlike 45-point autofocus, it doesn't give the camera all the focusing options, and it doesn't need to set the focus accurately.

It is more suitable for shooting moving objects, for example, when shooting athletes, because the subject is moving, it is easy to misplace the single focus, while setting 45-point autofocus has poor focusing accuracy, so it will choose regional autofocus or large-area autofocus.
