What is DIT's job?

Digital imaging engineer is a position evolved from photography engineer. Originally, DIT needed to manage and solve the problems of the camera, and color it when shooting. Then give the tape to the post-studio. As more and more movies have been converted into digital files, DIT is also responsible for signal and data management, file distribution and quality control.

the person who is solely responsible for downloading the material is not DIT. Those who only deal with digitized files are called "Data Wrangler". DIT needs a lot of technical knowledge to help monitor exposure level, color matching, generate color look-up table (LUT) and create daily samples. DIT has different tasks in each scene. For the shooting of advertisements, DIT is usually hired at the last minute.

after RED and Arri released digital movie cameras, it has become more and more common to hire DIT. However, because the shooting of advertisements is usually controlled by advertising companies, in the shooting of advertisements, DIT's work is mostly reduced to data transmission and making samples. The data and samples are sent to the editor, and the final color matching and style of the project are also decided by the advertising company. DIT will be much more involved in the shooting of TV programs and movies.
