Inspirational article: Selling iron to do one thing.
Jojo is an ascetic in China's film industry. The most responsible young director? . Friends around him say that he is simply crazy. Look for one thing, go all the way to the dark, and don't look back until you reach the south wall. And he himself said that sometimes selling iron has to do one thing.
In people's minds, directing is a very scenic profession. Making commercial films can not only make money and be decent, but also accumulate contacts and experience in Starlight Glimmer circles. However, Qiao Qiao, a young director who graduated from Beijing Film Academy, has embarked on an absolutely non-mainstream road: making public welfare films and protecting the ecological environment with light and shadow. Because of his extraordinary love for the natural environment, he is saddened by the deteriorating living environment. His dream is that today's internet no longer needs idols, but it must need positive energy to awaken people's conscience about environmental protection as a filmmaker.
In 2008, six young people embarked on a lonely, arduous and dangerous journey to shoot a wildlife film in China. The film crew has been running around in the wild all the year round, with wind, frost, rain and snow, stars and moons in Dai Yue. Because I don't have a car, I have to carry 100 kilograms of video equipment to and from the station and the shooting place every day, and sometimes I have to walk for an hour or two. I often get up at 4 or 5 o'clock in the morning, and it's already 1 1 o'clock when I get home from work at night, and I only sleep for 3 or 4 hours a day. In order to save money, stay in the cheapest hotel, or set up a tent near the shooting location, often only eat one meal a day.
It is inevitable to shoot in the wild all the year round. In order not to disturb wild animals and find the best shooting angle, difficult shooting actions are often performed. Once in Shanxi, in order to shoot herons on the cliff, Jojo tied a safety rope. The cat was on a protruding stone on the cliff, followed by an unsupported cliff and the bottomless Yellow River below. Although I was scared, I didn't think too much when shooting. In the summer of 20 10, Jojo and the film crew filmed the breeding of orioles. Jojo trudged along the waist-deep Yellow River with a tripod on her shoulder and a camera in her hand. Unexpectedly, a red-spotted brocade snake swam head-on, and Jojo staggered and drowned with the camera in the rolling Yellow River. Fortunately, he was good at swimming, so he escaped, and the film crew paid a painful price for it.
Ideal and reality always seem out of place, and in the process of shooting, money has become the biggest difficulty. China's nature and environment documentary production is still in its infancy. Without the investment of investors, the assistance of foundations and the support of the government, all the burdens fell on Jojo. Some people suggested that he solve the financial problem by planting advertisements, but Jojo couldn't do such a thing: the documentary planted an advertisement. What did that become? It's neither fish nor fowl. ? In order to raise money to continue filming documentaries, he sold his house and car and borrowed friends from relatives. The five-year filming process cost millions, which is undoubtedly a huge number for a young man. Jojo has been selling iron and is in debt, but he has no complaints and enjoys it.
After five years of shooting, from more than 2,000 hours of shooting materials, Jojo edited a lost home in just four minutes. This film takes wild animals as the leading role, with no lines, no explanations, no narration, no subtitles, and no artificial language and text preaching. It depicts the pain that we human beings bring to nature and animals with realistic creative techniques, and truly shows their tragic fate, which is very humanistic, touching and tearful. At the 2nd China International Folk Image Festival, Lost Home stood out from more than 1 10,000 entries from 35 countries and regions around the world, and won the main competition? Best short film award? .
Infect the soul with the temperature of light and shadow, and appeal to public welfare with the power of light and shadow. After winning the prize, Jojo began to be widely concerned by the society. Mr. Jong Lin, a royal photographer in Ang Lee, appreciates Jojo and his works very much. I once gave him a pair of couplets jokingly. The first part is: doing public welfare, selling cars and houses to make movies; Part II: I am willing to be a film ascetic for environmental protection. Jojo commented: I asked for it.
Wang Liren, an independent director, once said? Art needs some madness? . In fact, in order to pursue dreams, doesn't that industry need crazy spirit? Crazy is infinite persistence, not afraid of danger and sacrifice. If you want to succeed, you must do one thing well, just like young director Jojo, even if it is selling iron.
