Differences between "Artistic Portrait Photography" and "Commercial Portrait Photography"

It is pleasing to the general public, including the kj works of ordinary photographers for portrait photography.

Basic requirements for excellent portrait photography (20 photos). Whether it is business portraits, family photos, news portraits or even portraits involved in any photography field, whether it is the subject, photographer or viewer, as long as there is no special purpose, they all want to see pleasing portraits, and making the audience and the audience physically and mentally happy is one of the most important goals of any art form. First of all, pleasing to the eye has become the common goal of commercial photographers and customers. With the development of modern photography, many problems that were difficult or impossible to be solved by previous photographers have been solved technically, so it is relatively easy to achieve a pleasing realm. Used for commercial photography. This kind of portrait photography not only needs the photographer's own quality, but also depends on some objective factors, such as: excellent makeup artist, beautiful clothes, exquisite props, high-grade photographic equipment, advanced lighting, advanced equipment studio, advanced photo post-processing system, exquisite mounting and careful editing planning. For the field of portrait photography, the biggest defects are the excessive involvement of non-photographic ontology language and the desalination of photographic ontology language. The so-called photographic ontology language is a unique expression of photographic technology and art, including the use of film, exposure control, photographic lighting and composition management. Non-photographic language mainly refers to non-photographic means of expression that originally played an auxiliary role in photography, such as makeup, costumes, props and so on.

Portrait photography

In these portrait photography, the photographic ontology language is generally diluted, and most of the few remaining photographic ontology languages have become a fixed pattern and routine, and even distorted. For example, in terms of light consumption, in order to cater to the tastes of the public, more positive light and soft light are used; In terms of exposure, overexposure is often used to make the skin appear whiter. But all this is for the customer, and there is nothing wrong with it. Pleasure is to make customers and the general public feel physically and mentally happy. Therefore, this portrait photography itself is an important part of photography art, and it is this pleasing photography that attracts thousands of people to the studio and becomes an important economic pillar for the development of photography art in China, especially amateur photography art. Since photography works have the ability to attract the public, it shows that photography works have the ability to guide the public's aesthetic tendency. This pleasing commercial portrait photography has been popular for ten years, and the aesthetic tendency of the public is also changing quietly. Moreover, in recent years, with the outstanding contribution of a group of young photographers with great artistic expression to commercial photography, the current portrait photography is showing a booming trend.

Edit this paragraph vividly.

The appearance of photography makes the problem of "likeness" of portrait reproduction easy, and the development of contemporary portrait photography seems to be out of this development direction. In particular, the current popular business portraits are less and less like themselves, and are farther away from the vivid. The vividness here is, of course, not just a simple "likeness", but a similarity in spirit and form on the basis of pleasing to the eye. Portrait photography in this realm generally has the following main characteristics: 1: Correct use of photographic ontology language and non-photographic ontology language. The use of photographic ontology language is not only based on whether it is pleasing to the eye, but also on whether it can express the expression characteristics of characters. Natural and elegant lighting, accurate exposure, reflecting normal skin color and texture. Cosmetic props should not be too ostentatious and grandstanding. The purpose of makeup is to hide something from time to time, not to set it off. Props are just decorations, not expressions. 2. Capturing subtle expressions and shaping eyes' expressions is the eternal theme of photographers, and it is also the key to whether a portrait photography can be lifelike. In the feminine contemporary portrait photography, it should be said that it is very good at this point. There is a lack in the shaping of eyes. This is mainly due to the dim light used in photography. The high profile created by the soft light on the front makes it difficult to highlight the eyes. Therefore, using light to express the characters' eyes is the key to achieve this state in portrait works.

Edit this paragraph with flying personality

Personality publicity in portrait photography can be divided into two aspects, one is to publicize the personality of the subject, and the other is to publicize the personality of the photographer. From the photographer's point of view, the purpose of taking portraits is nothing more than to remember, appreciate and show their personality charm. From this perspective, the photographer is helping the subject to show his personality charm. From the photographer's point of view, as a creator of works of art, he should express his photography creativity by means of photography and with the help of the performance ability of models, to reflect his photography style, and even to tell his true understanding of life through photography language. Portrait photography in this realm usually has the following characteristics: 1: unique photography language. In terms of the use of photographic language, the use of photographic language in the first realm portrait photography is generally dull, the use of photographic language in the second realm portrait photography tends to be natural, and the use of photographic language in the third realm photography focuses on highlighting. Light is the most unique ontological language of photography. For example, Mo Xie's "Two Feelings to the Shadow" skillfully uses shadows to create a wonderful illusion, which is unforgettable. Another example is Saint by Zhu Enguang, A Light by Colin Thomas, Pure by Saab Alexandra Sutton, and so on. The beauty of photography noumenon language is vividly reflected. 2. Unique and concise drama plots, such as "Shadow in Life" filmed by Adler Mousavi, in which the hero and heroine tell an intriguing story in the light and shadow effect painstakingly managed by the photographer. It's not a TV series, but it seems to say more than a TV series. Of course, this work is also unique in lighting and composition. 3. Show a unique understanding of the relationship between man and nature. Pure portrait photography may not include nature, but in this special era of environmental crisis, many photographers aim at nature and the relationship between man and nature. Or enthusiastic eulogy, or sharp criticism. Carl Cowley's Man and the Sun and Yi's Man and the Sun both express the desire to integrate man and nature. 4. Strong visual impact Whether it is clever light and shadow, clever composition or innovative and bold lens application, its purpose is to produce strong visual effects. Publicizing the subject's personality is to make people look unique and dramatic like photographs. The publicity of the photographer's personality should show his understanding of photography, the subject, portrait photography and even life through his own personalized photography ontology language, so in a sense, photography is the photographer's silent confession.

Edit this paragraph and interpret life.

Great portrait photography is great because it depicts the souls of characters, because it eulogizes the greatness of life, because it records the spiritual outlook of an era, and because it records the joys and sorrows of human society. From the individual point of view, great portrait photography profoundly records the inner world of the characters, whether sad or happy, or thinking or shouting. It is precisely because it presents the inner world of the characters that such photographic works give people a spiritual shock. At the same time eulogize the preciousness and greatness of life. In the face of such works, every audience will be proud of having life. From the overall situation of human society, great portrait photography records the mental outlook of people in an era and the great joys and sorrows of human society. The significance of great portrait photography has completely surpassed the significance of ordinary portraits. It is a symbol of society, times and history. In this sense, the significance of portrait photography is far more than the publicity of the photographer's memory and personality.

Edit the fashion elements of this paragraph.

Studio photographers should grasp the fashion elements, create a sense of fashion and shoot portraits with a strong sense of fashion.

I. Determination of the theme

Choosing a fashionable theme is the premise of studio photography. Photography should have a sensitivity and grasp the latest popular elements as the subject material.

Second, clothing elements

The sense of fashion depends largely on clothes, because fashion is the protagonist of fashion. We can control and deal with fashion from style, color and texture. Style determines the overall style of clothing. Different fashion styles are popular in different periods. Portrait photographers should be observant and often go to some large clothing stores and fashion shops to watch and experience. It is necessary to observe the clothing changes of some fashionistas in order to improve their ability to capture fashion styles. Media magazines and websites are important sources of fashion information such as clothing styles. Color. Popular colors are the focus of fashion people. Pink purple and gray green were popular last spring, which had a certain influence on the portrait color of the studio. Participate in some fashion conferences, pay attention to the trends of fashion weeks at home and abroad, and the color tendency of urban fashionistas, so as to use them when shooting. We should also study the changing law of popular colors and pay attention to the influence of political and cultural changes on popular colors. There are also some classic colors, such as black, white and gray. These are the basic colors and lasting colors in the fashion trend, the so-called timeless colors. As shown in Figure 5, red and black collocation is a classic popular color collocation. The texture of clothing is very important. As shown in Figure 6, the clothes worn by the model have a strong sense of drape, which is the application of fashion element texture. In addition to the above points, there are many factors that affect the fashion of photos in clothing. The popularity of clothing sometimes leads to the popularity of retro fashion. For example, the clothing style of a certain era in the past will become fashionable again in comparison with the present era. Therefore, portrait photographers often study the popular knowledge of clothes and pay attention to popular clothes to ensure that they can take fashionable photos. There are many fashion elements in the environment and props. The fashion influence of the environment and props is not only reflected in the fashion degree, but also in the photographer's concept and choice. This requires us to grasp the pulse of fashion and use it in combination with the theme. Keen observation and decisive grasp are the long-term goals of our photographers.

When it comes to the lack of light in the studio, naturally there are four things:

1, the main light, that is, the first choice to determine the illumination mode of the subject, while other light can only play an auxiliary role. The main light used in modern studios is usually emitted by soft light boxes. The reason why the soft box is used is that the light it emits is more uniform and easy to control. The so-called soft light box is actually to put one or several light bulbs in a box and illuminate the subject through a soft box cover (usually made of plastic or textile) that can scatter light. The bigger the box, the more light bulbs, the stronger the power and the wider the lighting range. For the general photo studio, a soft light box with a diameter of about one square meter can be competent. The distance and angle of illumination can be adjusted as needed, and the exposure is determined according to the main light.

2, fill light, also known as auxiliary light, as the name implies, its role is to supplement the light of the shadow and make the shadow lighter. In fact, the auxiliary light can be the same soft box as the main light, and its light ratio with the main light can be adjusted by lighting distance or output power. If the exposure of the supplementary light is 3 steps less than that of the main light, the light ratio is 1: 3, which means that the result will get a deeper shadow. If the intensity of the supplementary light is close to the main light, for example, the difference is half an aperture, then the shadow part becomes very shallow. For simplicity, the light source can be fixed on the ceiling or wall, and the depth of the shadow can be controlled only by adjusting the output power. As for how to get the best light ratio between the supplementary light and the main light, we can only rely on repeated experiments.

3. Background light. In most cases, the subject has a certain distance from the background. Because the illumination of the light source decreases obviously with the increase of distance, the background is farther away from the light source than the main body, so the brightness of the background is much darker than the main body. If exposed according to the lighting conditions of the subject, the background will appear darker, and as a result, the subject looks as if it is integrated into the dark background. If the photographer doesn't mind this background effect, of course, no background light is needed. But if we want to distinguish the subject from the background, we need to illuminate the background separately, so there is the so-called background light. However, the use of background light should take into account the color, distance and illumination angle of the background. If you can't do it well, you will be self-defeating. Therefore, it is necessary to adjust the background light repeatedly to use it normally. In order to illuminate the seamless background evenly, it is sometimes necessary to use two lamps.

4. The head glows. Due to the development of portrait photography technology, the so-called head light has gradually evolved from an unnatural beam of light projected on the head to one or more wider and softer beams, which can not only prevent the hair from turning black, but also outline the subject, so it is also called "separated light". This method of using light has been widely used now, and small soft light boxes or strip lights are used for this purpose. This kind of head lighting can also be realized by reflecting a beam of light from the ceiling, but the light distribution range should be controlled. It won't look good if it shines on your nose.

The above four kinds of lighting are the basic lighting methods for portrait photography. These four methods can be used flexibly according to needs, and they can be used at the same time, or they can only use the main light and reflector. As for portrait photography using natural light in the studio or outdoors, the light sources used are natural light and reflectors on the spot. Of course, you can also use a combination of natural light and lighting.

At this point, perhaps all the methods of using up light have been involved, and these methods can be said to be enough. This is the routine practice of photographers. However, for portrait photography, the portraits taken by the existing lighting methods sometimes seem to be lacking. In short, it's not exciting enough. So, what ingenious methods can solve this delicate problem? Another way is to use another kind of light-emphasizing light.

Emphasizing the role of light is to add a little bright color and momentum to the portrait, highlight the shape of the subject and enhance the three-dimensional sense, or attract people's attention to the illuminated part that emphasizes light. In the studio, this kind of light is usually a small range of unscattered tough light, which is very aggressive. It can be seen that setting this kind of light does not cost too much, and even other light sources, such as portable flash, can be reflected into the picture with a mirror, which can play an emphasis role. If the flash is used as the light source, it can be placed on the bracket and synchronized with other lighting through the servo switch, that is, the photoelectric starter. The reason why mirrors are used is mainly to control the illumination range that emphasizes light. In order to get the best effect, it is emphasized that light usually comes from the back of the subject and sometimes enters the lens, which destroys the image effect. Therefore, in order to ensure that the lens is not affected by glare, a shading sheet made of black cardboard should be placed between the emphasized light and the lens.

The intensity of light is generally not strictly regulated, because different photographers pursue different effects, but we might as well take the brightness beyond the main light aperture as the starting point for shooting. However, even if the intensity of light is the same as the main light, it will have a vivid effect, because its light quality is tough and its luminous angle makes the light reflect to the lens. By the way, if a flash is used as the light source of accent lighting, all other light sources should be turned off when measuring the intensity of accent lighting.

Snapping and posing are both important means of photography creation. During the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution, posing prevailed, even in news photography. After the beginning of the new era, the ideological front stresses seeking truth from facts, and the photography circle begins to belittle posing, even being almost completely denied. After entering the 1990s, with the diversified development of culture and art, posing has been duly affirmed. But today, with the prevalence of utilitarian consciousness, posing seems to have gone astray again.

In fact, posing and snapping, as the means of photographic art creation, have their own characteristics and corresponding living space. Snapshot is true and natural, suitable for news photography. The advantage of posing is that it can provide scenes and pictures that are more in line with photographers, and it is suitable for portrait photography, advertising photography and so on. Posing and snapping are both opposites and sometimes unified.

The so-called posing is the process that the photographer creates a certain environment and designs a certain plot according to his own ideas, so that the photographer can perform and finally shoot it. In this process, photographers often act as directors. Obviously, posing photos often have better lighting, composition, more beautiful background, more beautiful models and more dramatic plots. Therefore, posing has a great living space.

For example, in the field of advertising photography, advertising itself is characterized by strong visual impact, and even does not refuse exaggeration and affectation. Therefore, posing is almost the only creative technique in advertising photography, which is beyond reproach. For example, in the field of commercial portrait photography, whether from the general needs of the public or from the operating costs of photographers, indoor posing is needed. This is also taken for granted. But our photographers are not very clear about posing, and they extend posing to almost all photography fields. And all kinds of newspapers and magazines are full of all kinds of posing works, which provide a broad living space for posing works, and posing is getting worse.

Perhaps many cinematographers think that there is no need to discuss posing and capturing in today's diversified art. Yes, there is no need to discuss whether photography should be posed, but it is completely reasonable and necessary to discuss the existence space and artistic skills of posing. I think there are the following problems in posing in photography at present:

First, the photographer's photography purpose is not clear, or some photographers simply lose the purpose of photography.

Photography seems to be more self-motivated than any other art group. Many photographers are determined to win prizes and become famous soon after learning photography, but the lack of artistic vision can't make these photographers find more dramatic scenes, so posing has become the best choice. Many local photography associations regard posing as the most important or even the only means of photography creation. Theoretical circles also openly declare that photography must have "conception". What they call "conception" is to design pictures and scenes in advance and "shoot while guiding". Out of their love for nature, some cinematographers like to shoot while walking, without seeking fame or prizes, just recording and feeling nature with their lenses. Some people call it "a glance" and "no depth".

In fact, there are only two purposes of photography itself, one is the true record of life to the world, and the other is the description and re-creation of beautiful things. For example, news photography is used to record history, of course, it must be absolutely faithful to history. Some news photography works like the Great Leap Forward period are simply a mockery of history. Another example is folk photography, which is a true record of folk customs, and if the photographer acts as a director and performs a series of fake plays for the so-called artistic creation, it is the greatest insult to art. Unfortunately, such a farce is staged in the photography industry every day.

Second, the expression is crude, simple in thinking and lacking in imagination.

Many movie friends don't really understand the benefits of posing. They just shoot for the sake of photography and pose for the sake of posing. The photographed works can be captured in real life, and there is no better lighting, composition and dynamic effect than the captured works. Their expressions are also extremely simple, and their logic is always so simple: all wedding dresses are beautiful, all poverty is simple, and all strangeness is innovation; Take pictures of flowing water, have a girl parasol, take pictures of rural scenery, have scalpers and old farmers; They can set fire to smoke in order to shoot clouds and dress up in disguise in order to shoot folk customs. Of course, I also heard that in order to shoot a funeral, some people let the dead be reburied. This is a moral issue, which is not discussed in this article.

Many movie friends lack life accumulation, and the works they shoot are not in line with the reality of life, but they are still complacent.

Third, imitation has become a common practice, and imitation works are of great use.

We can see that similar works abound in several major domestic photography magazines and in various film competitions. I hope the project will be popular, just like the eager eyes of mountain children and the popularity of wedding dresses. Wedding photos are held everywhere and motorcycles are used for a ride. You yawn, I yawn, you sneeze, I sneeze.

Imitation is not the fault of posing, and snapshots can also imitate. But on the one hand, posing works are easy to imitate, on the other hand, posing as a creative form is particularly suitable for imitation, and posing works have a great market. So imitators enjoy it. In this way, sometimes imitation is even a by-product of posing.

If I have to write down my feelings when shooting with a pen, I really can't do anything, because I know it's just a fleeting feeling. I just used my camera to make my dream come true.

I like dreams, so I always tell a story or atmosphere to the model when I take pictures. This atmosphere may come from my experience, my dreams, the images I have seen and so on. So some people say that my photos pay too much attention to personal color, and even some are too gloomy.

I like novelty, so every time I take a group of photos, I will ask myself: what is the next group of photos? The answer is: don't repeat yourself, let alone others. In order not to repeat myself, I have to imagine a different scene. I remember that before taking a group of photos with the cultural revolution atmosphere, I specially went to Beijing Panjiayuan second-hand market to remake the old photos of the day to find the feeling I wanted. While taking another set of photos with the theme of "tracking", I boarded the train to the Great Wall at Beijing Station to find the imaginary small platform.

I like those imaginative pictures with the photographer's personal feelings. I don't emphasize how clear the image is, and I don't care about composition. I just don't think this picture is an image I have never seen before. Whether a painting has imagination and creativity is my standard to measure its quality. There are no rules for taking pictures. You can think simply but make a complicated movie, or you can imagine that the movie is simple. A good movie is definitely the movie that can move the audience the most.

Photos define the moments that originally belonged to life and express the photographer's own thoughts and feelings. Where does creativity come from? Someone may have written as many words on this topic as rivers. I think everyone's brain is like a warehouse. Everyone will have all the memories you have seen, heard, done and later mixed with personal experiences. The difference is that everyone will express their memories in different ways.

If it's not commercial, I'll choose 135 camera to shoot. I don't want the camera to hinder my thinking development. So my camera is usually set to aperture priority, plus a flash. Of course. This does not mean that photography is not important.

I am glad that I have the freedom to create my own image most of the time. But I can't shake off the shadow of the past. I know that everyone will have a process of growth.

Some predecessors added a motto: "Art has laws, but art can't." I hope each of us can walk out of our own artistic path.
