The Past Life of Mosaic Art
A picture that goes through a thousand years.
It is her most beautiful signature.
There is an art, as one of the oldest arts, which has gone through thousands of years without annihilation. Today, it attracts an unusually colorful rebirth.
This is the art of mosaic.
Some people say that mosaic is a craft, which makes sense from a historical point of view. It is more like a decorative art, beautifying countless magnificent and exquisite historical buildings. However, since 1950s, more and more artists have participated in this form of creation. Their imagination and creativity make mosaic works become a contemporary art that attracts much attention, which makes viewers feel amazing.
I recently interviewed the French Mosaic Art Association, which was founded in 2000. Over the past 20 years, more than 50 exhibitions have been held and more than 300 trainings have been held, benefiting more than 1200 mosaic-related artists and enthusiasts. Dean Ms. Demonchaux introduced some works of the exhibition.

It can be seen that contemporary mosaic art is not limited to pictures.
She also created a new form of ceramics, sculpture and installation art,
Various styles.
From aestheticism to abstraction,
Plane to three-dimensional,
Can be monochrome or color,
That is, there are works suitable for appreciation,
There are also creative and amazing works.

As one of the oldest creative forms in the history of human art, mosaic has a long history. It is said that it originated in Mesopotamia more than 5000 years ago.
In Europe, since Greece in the 5th century BC, there have been mosaics made of uncut pebbles. In the early days, Greek mosaics were more practical and often used in damp rooms. Gradually, mosaics have decorative uses (geometric figures, hunting scenes, myths, etc.). ).
The word "mosaic" comes from Latin? Musivum is related to Muse, the goddess in charge of literature, art and science in Greek mythology, which means that this decoration method was originally used in the place of Muse. Later, the word mosaic was gradually widely used until it became a well-known creative technique: now it mainly refers to the artistic creation of making patterns with stones, shells, enamel, ceramics, glass and other materials. Different periods have different uses and different materials are used.
The golden age of mosaic decoration prevailed in Rome. The splendid Roman Empire was good at large-scale construction, and at the same time showed great strength and financial resources. Mosaic decoration is applied to ground walls, sidewalks, theaters, churches, hot springs and various public places. Precious marble was also introduced into the material. At this time, the decorative patterns of mosaics are more diverse: geometric figures, animals and plants, daily life scenes and, of course, mythical scenes.
Romans who were good at fighting and architecture also knew how to have fun. They like to open baths, which are often large buildings. For example, the famous Karakala Bath in caracalla can accommodate 1600 people at the same time. In addition to public or private bathrooms, there are various sports, even massage rooms and libraries. The interior decoration of the building is exquisite and luxurious, and there are a lot of mosaics and marble decorations on the ground and walls.
Prosperity was bound to decline, and the Roman Empire split in the 3rd century. The completion of Constantinople in 330 meant the formation of the Eastern Roman Empire (called Byzantine Empire for later generations). The ancient Romans developed and spread mosaic technology, which deeply influenced the Byzantine Empire. Sophie Saint Sofia Cathedral in Constantinople and Sanvitale Saint Vitaly Cathedral in Lavaine, Lavaine are excellent examples of Byzantine mosaics, showing their luxury!
It is often used to illustrate religious images, with bright colors, gold foil and enamel influenced by the East. Mosaic art reached its peak during the Byzantine Empire.
During the Renaissance, mosaics continued to develop. At that time, due to the limitation of pigments and tools, some famous paintings were difficult to preserve, and mosaics were also used instead of original paintings to preserve famous paintings for a long time. On the other hand, due to the vigorous development of painting during the Renaissance and beyond, mosaic art gradually declined in the following centuries.
In France, it was not until the second half of the19th century that technological innovation made mosaics glow again. Mosaic decoration is widely used in the construction of Paris Opera House, and the technology has been improved (first, the mosaic is pasted on an intermediary material to form a pattern, and then the whole pattern is pasted on the ground wall). Art Nouveau later expanded its application.
Mosaic art has gone through thousands of years,
Because it has long been attributed to technology,
At one time, many works were nameless,
But through the picture of history,
Is their most beautiful signature.
Today's mosaic art is more innovative and has become a striking contemporary art, such as the works we saw in the exhibition of the Association at first. The following portrait of Stromae Belgian singer Stromae is composed of the photographic works of mosaic artists Laurence Torno and Jean-Marc Le beaupin.
These two persistent artists have worked hard to build an art service platform for many years: www.artsixmic.fr
Speaking of Lawrence, my heart is still surging. She has created mosaic art for more than 30 years, and we met at an exhibition many years ago.
"Creation is the expression of emotion". Just as we know people through their works, we can also know artists and their emotions from their works.
This French woman's work is poetic and pure, just like eastern poetry. She created the artistic conception of hard mosaic art in our impression. At first glance, just a thousand words come to mind.

The infinite natural scenery of art
A herd of quiet or galloping horses.
Beautiful and free woman ...
It is hard for us to imagine how many fires, cuts, polishes, splices, etc. Is what a work needs, so that artists can patiently put these small and colorful mosaics together into poems ...?
Oh, it's not just a small piece, but every thought, every breath and every emotion of the artist is written silently and passionately in his creation.
Unable to view, overflow the picture.
Are you excited?

It is moving.
This is the wonderful value of art for us personally.
