How to use Google Photos

Step 1: First, you need to open the download page of Google Photos Desktop app. If you are visiting this website for the first time, you can read a brief introduction about this service first. After the introduction, you can click the "Desktop Uploader" button on the left. This website will detect your operating system and provide the download of the corresponding installation program.

Step 2: Start the installer, agree to the terms of service, and then log in to Google Photos with your Google account.

Step 3: The desktop uploader will now ask you which folders you need to upload to Google Photos. It will automatically select several default folders and potential cameras or memory cards. Of course, you are free to choose or add other folders.

At this time, you need to choose the resolution of the photo. You can choose high-quality original photos, or you can use Google Photos to compress photos by default.

With photos, storage space is no longer a problem! You can upload as many photos as you want, as long as you have no problem with Google's photo compression (photos with pixels exceeding16 million or videos with resolutions exceeding 1080p will be compressed).

It is worth noting that Photos can store photos for you without compression, but when you use most Google apps (including Gmail) to upload photos, these apps have requirements on the size of attachments.

Although the Photos and videos uploaded by users may have been compressed, it is reported that there is little difference between the pictures uploaded to Photos and the original pictures, at least it is difficult for human eyes to distinguish. Except for professional photographers and people who look at photos with the help of retinal monitors, most people don't have much opinion on this level of image compression.

Step 4: Now, you just need to wait for the file to upload, which may take several minutes to several hours, depending on the file size and network speed.

If you want to stop uploading photos/videos to files or storage devices, you can click the icon of Google Photos, go to Options, and select and cancel the folders you don't want to back up.
