Experience of visiting black museums
I visited the Asian Black Museum the other day. To be exact, this is not a museum, but an exhibition of popular science and mental illness. Obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, bipolar disorder, borderline personality ... Many people suffer from mental illness and insist on living alone at the same time, like a lonely soldier.
In the exhibition, most of the exhibits are created by mental patients, but in fact they are patients' personal belongings. Some exhibits are suicide notes written by patients when they are extremely depressed, which hurt their blades and triggered unpleasant memories. Some of the exhibits are paintings and photos created by patients during rehabilitation, encouraging letters and gifts received from friends, calm copying notes, packaging boxes for taking drugs and notebooks for recording daily medication.
The creators of these exhibits are still receiving treatment, and some of them recorded a recording within 1 minute to express their feelings to the audience. In the recording, the creator encouraged the patients suffering from mental illness like them that life is the most precious, so they should face life positively and not regard mental illness as a huge obstacle. Can be cured, and the power of healing lies in themselves. For the general public, please have more understanding and respect for mental patients, more understanding of people around you, more empathy, and don't jump to conclusions.
After the visit, I got some insights.
1. Humans have been exploring the treatment of mental illness.
Early mental patients were locked in a corner of the monastery, and the audience bought tickets to visit, just like visiting a zoo.
In the Middle Ages and Renaissance, people regarded mental patients as the devil's upper body, and drilling holes in people's skulls was conducive to "the devil's escape", so there appeared special instruments for drilling holes in skulls;
Then there is hydrotherapy, in which cold water and hot water are poured to the patient in turn to make the patient honest;
Rotating therapy can dredge the blood vessels in the brain of mental patients, thus alleviating the condition;
Restraint chair, which comes with a toilet, can tie the patient to it for a long time, and the patient wears a restraint mask and clothes;
According to the theory of animal magnetism, patients drink liquid containing high dose of iron, and then place magnets on their wrists and ankles.
Olfactory therapy, let hysterical women smell foul things, thinking that foul smell can repel the uterus swimming in the upper body;
Insulin therapy, after giving large doses of insulin, schizophrenics usually become quiet and fall into a coma;
Electroshock therapy, with a certain amount of current passing through the brain, will lead to loss of consciousness and seizures;
1970 Lobectomy was basically banned in the world.
Drug therapy, chlorpromazine, which evolved from anthelmintics, has become a pioneer in psychiatric drug treatment.
By simply combing the history of mental illness treatment, we can know that drug treatment is a treatment method that has little harm to patients' body and mind so far. Once again, human beings know very little about the emotional world and the brain. We have limitations, so don't judge people and things at will.
2. Family is warm, but it may also be the pathogenic environment of mental illness. In the exhibition, one of the exhibits is the violent words that the patient's parents said to him. Patients with mental illness are often not encouraged and comforted by their loved ones during their illness. My family always says, "Why do you think so much?" .
For people, the temperature suitable for sleeping is cool, neither too hot nor too cold. In my opinion, the temperature of the family should be as cool as the temperature of sleep. The temperature is hot, and the contradictions between people increase; The temperature is cold, and people feel disconnected. Cool temperature is the best, stay independent and feel accepted.
Although the world is not perfect, there are always people watching over you. When you feel isolated, you can call the psychological crisis intervention hotline.
Many cities in China have psychological crisis intervention assistance hotlines, which can be found by search engines. Generally, local mental health centers provide psychological crisis intervention assistance services, and some non-profit organizations provide targeted psychological assistance services to homosexuals, transgender people, AIDS patients and sex offenders. Please be more patient with these hotlines and yourself. If you can't connect the first time, try again.
Finally, there is nothing in the world that a cup of milk tea can't solve. If so, use two cups!
