Six photographic techniques for taking unique photos

Lead: Travel photos can not only prove that you have been to other cities or countries, but also show your artistic level of photography. Here are 6 tips to help you take more wonderful photos.

1. Always be ready

You can't shoot if you leave your camera in the hotel. So the most important thing is to always bring a camera. If the SLR camera is too big, you might as well buy a portable digital camera or M4/3 camera. Even Canon 5D Mark II will not play any role in the hotel.

Besides taking a camera, you should always be ready to shoot. Shooting opportunities always appear inadvertently, and then quickly disappear. If you are busy setting parameters, you will miss these shots, and that moment will never reappear. Select the appropriate shooting mode. If the shooting process is leisurely, I usually use aperture priority and adjust exposure compensation as needed. If you are not familiar with the operation, you need to do some follow-up work to deal with those imperfect photos. Remember, taking a slightly underexposed or overexposed photo is much better than taking nothing at all.

Refuse to follow the crowd

Have you ever met many people grabbing the same position in some tourist attractions, taking the same photos from the same angle in the same place? You can find different shooting angles without too much trouble. You can climb high, look for angles from the side and bottom, or take pictures with other photographers. I think the work taken in this way is more creative than the photos taken from the most common angle and position.

3. Search &; establish ties (with)

This is a globalized world. Flickr and other photo-sharing websites make it easier for people to find good places for photography. Search for the most popular photos of a city or place. You can try to imitate these works or add your own ideas. These websites are also good forums to meet other photographers. I am very lucky. I met some respected photographers from Detroit to Kuala Lumpur and took photos with them. They know some wonderful places that are unknown, and these things are hard to know by themselves.

In the photography circle, most of my relationships started with a simple Flickr message.

4. Risk

It's worth taking some risks. We must consider a simple risk/reward calculation. Do you really want to film the butcher who was angry in the market? What's the worst thing that can happen to you after filming? Is it worth the risk? I am very familiar with urban exploration. I will be very careful when I want to enter an abandoned building and climb the roof or crane. This is very important when traveling or encountering different situations. Generally speaking, the greater the risk, the better the photos.

The risks are not limited to urban exploration. Some of my most representative photos were taken at the front line of G20 Summit in Toronto last year. My companions were attacked by tear gas and rubber bullets. You need to ask yourself? How far should I take pictures?

Get rid of conformism

There is nothing wrong with tourist attractions. However, it is becoming more and more difficult to take unique photos at scenic spots. Fortunately, it is not difficult to get rid of conformism. It's as simple as walking out of the hotel, wandering around the town, walking a few kilometers to the other side of the beach, or exploring some little-known places. Get rid of conformism, even a little, and you will have a more unique and unforgettable experience; Of course, you can also take some more wonderful photos.

Know how to rest

During a long trip or vacation, you may be tired of shooting, or lack creativity on some days. For me, sometimes taking pictures is a chore. It shouldn't be like this. Remember, when you arrive at a new place, you must first experience another culture. The people there and the city, photography should rank second. In those days when I really didn't want to take pictures, I changed my Canon camera to an iPod and waited for creativity and inspiration in my daily life. One of the ways I stay inspired is to do some volunteer photography. You may encounter some sporadic opportunities during your trip, or contact with NGOs, charities or other organizations. When I pick up the camera again, I will feel more energetic.
