In the early morning of September 5, 2023, the command center of Fuzhou Fire Rescue Detachment received an alarm. Due to heavy rainfall, two people were trapped on the bus from Tangqian Township in Yongtai County to Yidu Town in Fuqing City. The Geling Fire Rescue Station in Yongtai County immediately dispatched 1 fire truck and 8 fire rescue personnel to the scene for disposal.

As the backbone of the team's water rescue, Chen Zuyan and Hu Xudong participated in the rescue with the team. Chen Zuyan, Hu Xudong and their comrades-in-arms tried their best to open a life-saving passage and forcibly push the trapped vehicles to carry out rescue, regardless of the storm and flood. At this time, the sudden flash floods, turbulent water, turbulent water constantly hit dozens of tons of fire engines to the edge of the road.

At a critical juncture, Chen Zuyan and Hu Xudong were rushed to avoid danger in order to protect their comrades-in-arms, and were washed away by flash floods. Unfortunately, they died heroically. Comrade Chen Zuyan is only 3 1 year old, and Comrade Hu Xudong is only 26 years old. Six other firefighters and two trapped people who called for help escaped safely.

In September, 2023, Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League and Fujian Youth Federation decided to posthumously award the May 4th Medal of Fujian Youth to Comrade Hu Xudong.
