How to achieve accurate exposure in different shooting environments

Lead: When shooting, how can we achieve accurate exposure in the face of various lighting environments? Let's have a look.

In order to display the exposure indication, your camera must be adjusted to a mode that can adjust the exposure (such as P, Tv, Av or M). If you use any of the gears just mentioned, when you look through the viewfinder and press the shutter half-way, you will see a number axis marked with -2,-1,+1 and +2 in turn. This is the exposure indication, which can also be displayed on the shoulder screen and LCD screen of many cameras.

In the middle of the exposure indicator is a pointer showing the exposure level. When you shoot in P, Tv or Av mode, this pointer will be located in the center of the exposure level indicator. This means that you are taking pictures with the correct parameters, that is, standard exposure.

However, if exposure compensation is used, the pointer on the indicator bar will move to other increments, such as+1 or-1.

When using m-block, the exposure instructions will be very helpful. It is worth emphasizing here that using M block does not mean guessing the parameters, because when you measure the light, the exposure indicator will give you the same information, just like taking pictures in other modes.

When shooting with M block, the exposure indication is more important, which can help you to expose correctly. At this time, we should pay attention to the choice of exposure mode and focus.

Shoot a scene with a middle tone.

When shooting a scene without exposure compensation, adjust the aperture size or shutter speed until the pointer is in the center of the exposure indication. When the depth of field is large, it is suggested to choose the aperture f/ 16, and then adjust the shutter speed until the pointer returns to the center.

Shoot the subject in the dark

If you shoot people in the spotlight in a very dark environment, the subject must be overexposed when the pointer is in the center. In order to correctly expose the subject, you can first adjust the pointer to the left (for example,-1 or -2), and then adjust the aperture and shutter speed.

Shooting in a very bright environment

Subjects with bright light, such as snow scenes, need to be underexposed when shooting. Therefore, you need to adjust the pointer to the right of the exposure indication. You can decide whether the pointer turns right or left by looking at the histogram. At this time, histogram will be used to judge white and overexposure.
