What is the basic process of film editing?

1, mark

In the material library, samples will be classified and clearly marked. Each scene may contain additional notes from the director or photographer. This is the first sample that the editor saw. It was shot according to the development of the story, so it is consistent with the content. A good editor will watch the sample carefully, looking for actions and details that can be integrated into the film.

2. Initial classification

The editor will carefully review all the audio and video materials taken in each scene and reorder them to tell the story in the best way. For large-scale movies, it is generally to edit while shooting. The editor arranged the sample clips for the directors and producers to watch. In order to have more choices in editing, editors and directors usually shoot more important moments.

3, rough cutting and change

Rough shearing usually takes three months to complete. Every editor has a different way of working. Sometimes, editors work alone and then show the director and producer the results of a day or weeks' work; Sometimes I work with the director to discuss every detail of the film.

Step 4 edit for the first time

The first cut was a rough cut that had been approved by editors, directors and producers. Although there may be changes, the selected clips and lens groups have been basically determined. The film has begun to take shape. According to the proportion, structure and rhythm of the coarse weave, the coarse weave will be refined and sublimated.

5. Manual modification process

Fine editing no longer pays attention to the whole film, but to the details of the clip. Fine cutting strengthens and consolidates the rhythm and structure determined by the main cutting.

6. Final editing

After the intensively edited film is approved by the editor, director and producer, sound designers, composers and subtitle designers will cooperate with the editor to create and add sound effects and music in the final edited version. After the final editing is unanimously approved, the editing decision table will be sent to the developing room, and the negative editor will correspond the negative with the EDL to ensure that the produced negative is completely consistent with the final editing result.
