When was plastic invented?
The first fully synthetic plastic came from Belgian-American Leo Hendrick Baekeland, who registered a patent for phenolic plastic.
Plastics are macromolecules polymerized from monomers through addition polymerization or polycondensation, commonly known as plastics or resins. The composition and shape can be changed freely, and it is composed of synthetic resin, fillers, plasticizers, stabilizers, lubricants, pigments and other additives.
The main component of plastic is resin. The word resin was originally named after the lipids secreted by animals and plants, such as rosin and shellac. Resin refers to a polymer compound without various additives. Resin accounts for about 40% ~ 100% of the total weight of plastics. The basic properties of plastics mainly depend on the properties of resin, but additives also play an important role. Some plastics are basically composed of synthetic resin with little or no additives, such as plexiglass and polystyrene.
superiority
1. Most plastics have strong corrosion resistance and do not react with acid and alkali.
2. The plastic manufacturing cost is low.
3. Durable, waterproof and light.
4. It is easy to be molded into different shapes.
5. It is a good insulator.
6. Plastics can be used to prepare fuel oil and gas, which can reduce the consumption of crude oil.
disadvantaged
1. When recycling waste plastics, sorting is very difficult and uneconomical.
2. Plastic is easy to burn, which will produce toxic gas. For example, when polystyrene burns, it will produce toluene, a small amount will lead to blindness, and inhalation will vomit. When PVC burns, it will also produce toxic gas of hydrogen chloride. In addition to combustion, it is a high temperature environment, which will lead to the decomposition of toxic components such as benzene.
3. Plastics are products extracted from petroleum, and petroleum resources are limited.
4. Plastic will not rot after being buried underground for hundreds, thousands or even tens of thousands of years.
5. Plastic has poor heat resistance and is easy to age.
6. Plastic has become the number one enemy of human beings because of its unnatural degradation, which has also led to the tragedy of many animals' deaths.
