Background of creation of World Tourism Alliance

The development of tourism.

Tourism has always played the role of a pioneer industry for China’s opening up. When the reform and opening up began in 1978, one of the first areas to integrate with international standards was tourism. It can be said that tourism was the first to lead China's opening up, and tourism has become China's most internationalized industry. Over the past few decades, with the gradual opening of various industries, the leading advantage of the opening of the tourism industry is no longer obvious in a general sense. Therefore, in the new era, if the tourism industry wants to continue to be at the forefront of opening up, it needs new measures and new carriers. Against this background, China's initiative to establish the World Tourism Alliance (WTA) is a manifestation of the tourism industry's continued strengthening of the characteristics of an open industry. It is also an important platform for China’s tourism industry to achieve open development at a higher level in the new era.

The World Tourism Alliance is an international association registered with the Ministry of Civil Affairs. It was initiated and established by China. It is China's first global, comprehensive, non-governmental and non-profit international tourism organization.
