Due to the high terrain in the southeast of Shanxi Province, the mountains block the ocean airflow. Compared with the neighboring North China Plain, the temperature is lower, the precipitation is less, and the temperature difference between day and night is larger. Especially in spring, there is a big sandstorm, and the best tourist season is May-10.

Scenic activities: On the annual cultural heritage day (June 10), Yungang Tourism Festival (August18 → August 28), May Day, Golden Week and other important festivals, special tourism projects such as cultural performances and special exhibitions of Yungang Grottoes are carried out, with rich contents and distinctive cultural characteristics.
Introduction of scenic spots
Yungang Grottoes in Datong is one of the largest grottoes in China. Together with Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, Luoyang Longmen Grottoes and Maijishan Grottoes, it is called the four major grottoes art treasures in China. Located at the southern foot of Wuzhou Mountain in the western suburbs of Datong City, Shanxi Province, the grottoes are excavated along the mountain, stretching from east to west 1 km.
There are 45 main caves, 252 large and small caves and more than 5 1000 statues, which is one of the largest ancient caves in China. Among them, the Tan Yao Grottoes with strict and unified layout is the classic masterpiece of China's Buddhist art at its first peak.
