What is the development status of industrial tourism in China?

China's industrial tourism started late, and only a few powerful or distinctive enterprise groups launched some sightseeing projects for marketing purposes in the late 1990s. In recent years, industrial enterprises have developed independently, and the tourism authorities have vigorously promoted, guided and standardized them. China's industrial tourism has begun to take shape, and some mature tourist spots and reasonable tourist routes have been launched one after another, attracting a large number of tourist consumers and forming a certain reception scale. The National Tourism Administration identified the first batch of industrial tourism demonstration sites, which laid a foundation for standardizing and promoting the development of industrial tourism. Yuan Jing Design Institute pointed out that there are four types of these demonstration sites: one is traditional, which develops tourism with the production methods and techniques of waste industry as the main content, showing the past production workshops and sense of history; Second, science and technology, based on the most advanced science and technology today, popularize scientific knowledge and show the power of modern science and technology; The third type is tourism product type, which directly converts the produced products into tourism resources for tourists to visit and buy, such as cloisonne industrial tourism in Beijing; Fourth, comprehensive tourism resources, integrating the above types, integrating industrial production resources, natural landscapes and human landscapes, and highlighting comprehensive advantages.

The geographical distribution of industrial tourism is basically consistent with the industrial distribution, that is, it is widely distributed in new and old industrial cities, and the areas with better industrial tourism development are basically concentrated in the central and eastern regions of China, while the western region is not rich in its own industrial tourism resources due to geographical restrictions, and there are only a handful of industrial tourism demonstration sites. At the same time, in the demonstration sites of industrial tourism, well-known large enterprises are basically shortlisted, so we can find that the distribution of industrial tourism in China is also very uneven, mainly concentrated in some traditional industries such as food, energy, traditional processing and manufacturing, and the proportion of high-tech industries is too small.
