Hainan Island Cycling Guide to the Eastern Route

As we all know, there are three routes for cycling around Hainan Island: the eastern route, the western route and the central route. Today, the Eastern Route is the most popular route. 1. Since the development of the eastern region is relatively complete, the specific cycling strategies are as follows.

Eastern Route

The Eastern Route is the most popular route. First, because the eastern part is well developed, with good road conditions and dense urban attractions. Second, the road is closer to the coastline, so there are more opportunities to see the sea. Most cyclists will choose Haikou as their starting point and then go to Sanya for a few days.

The number of riding days is generally 4 days, and there are two routes: national highway version (short line) and provincial highway version (long line):

National highway (blue in the picture), with a total length of 373km :

The first day: Haikou - Wenchang 105 kilometers

The second day: Wenchang - Qionghai 60 kilometers

The third day: Qionghai - — Wanning 72 kilometers

Day 3: Wanning — Sanya 136 kilometers

From Haikou along Provincial Highway 201 from Wenchang to Qionghai, then ride along National Highway 223 to Sanya . Good cyclists can ride directly to Wanning the next day and complete the eastern route in three days.

< p>On the first day, cross Wenhai Bridge and follow Provincial Highway 206 to Longlou Town, where there are scenic spots such as Tongguling and Stone Park. Starting from Longlou, follow National Highway 360 and cross Qinglan Bridge, then enter Provincial Highway 201. When you arrive at Changpo Town, turn into County Road 341. When you arrive at Tanmen Town, cross Tanmen Bridge again and enter Boao along Binhai Avenue. On the third day, start from Boao, follow Bowen Road, Longtan Road, Yingbin Road, Donghai Road, enter County Road 428, return to National Road 223, arrive at Lehe Town, follow County Road 420 to Gangbei Village Pier, and take a ferry to the other side. . On the way, you will pass the Dahuajiao Science Popularization Point in the scenic area. You can go west to Wanning along County Road 432, or turn south on Binhai Landscape Avenue in Wuchang Village, enter County Road 435 to Shenzhou Peninsula, and spend the night near Shimei Bay. On the third day, no matter you live in Wanning, Shenzhou or Xinglong, on the fourth day, you have to climb to Niuling, the highest point on the east line, and then follow National Highway 223 to Sanya.

Season and weather

Hainan is located in the tropics and has high temperatures all year round. There are only two states of riding a horse: hot as a dog and not hot as a dog. December to February every year is the best season for cycling, with the average temperature being around 20 degrees. Followed by March-April and November, the temperature is around 25 degrees. In other months, the daytime temperature exceeds 30 degrees, making it unsuitable for riding. In addition, rainfall is heavy from April to September, especially in the summer, and typhoons occur frequently.

The author encountered more cloudy and rainy days during the November holiday, which is helpful for cooling down, but it is not suitable for watching the sea. The scenery is beautiful on a sunny day, but it is easy to get sunstroke and sunburn. Winter temperatures are moderate, but people spend more during the tourist season. The sun is very hot in summer, but you can enjoy the entire beach to yourself. Each has pros and cons.

How to get there

Most riders start from Haikou, and some set off from Sanya. Both cities have international airports with flights all over the country, which is very convenient. Air ticket prices in the off-season are only a few hundred round-trips, and my flight from Shanghai around National Day only costs around 1,300.
