What work dimensions do you learn from Ode to Joy?
The first dimension of work is "post" work.
We can understand this job as what we often call a "rice bowl". Very professional, need certain skills, such as teacher preparing lessons, driver driving, chef cooking, accounting, designer drawing, programmer programming and so on. These jobs basically require you to experience certain training or education and have certain qualifications to do.
Your qualification in this position is your competitiveness. Usually, the more competitive you are in this position, it means that your salary will be higher, your resume will be more beautiful, and it will be easier to find a job and jump ship. In addition to the training and education before work, with the increase of practical work experience, the improvement of self-study and the guidance of colleagues and superiors, you will gradually improve your competitiveness.
Take Andy in Ode to Joy as an example. She is very competitive in her work. As a CFO, she is extremely sensitive to numbers, clear in logic and strong in analytical ability, and can find problems to the point. She has received a good education abroad and has work experience on Wall Street, so it is not surprising that she can get a high salary from an executive after returning to China.
Qiu Yingying and Guan Guan are just the opposite of Andy. Not to mention their different talents, education and work experience are much worse, so their competitiveness in the workplace is not strong, so they are easily replaced. Then, why did Qiu Yingying take the CPA exam and seize every opportunity to study just to improve his post competitiveness?
Some jobs seem to have little to do with "skills", such as a manager, whose job may be more of a department management job, which I think is also a kind of job. Because first of all, managers are generally promoted because of their excellent work. Secondly, management is also a professional skill, which can be improved through training, study and practice.
The second dimension of work is "universal" work.
As the name implies, ordinary workers may involve all kinds of work. For example, meetings, emails, work logs, business trips, summary reports, etc. Take conferences as an example, there may be small-station conferences, large-scale multi-person conferences, remote voice conferences, video conferences and so on.
The specific contents involved in these general tasks will be various, but the main function is a kind of "cooperation and communication". Including now, everyone uses WeChat to build a work group, and chatting with colleagues in it can be considered as doing general work.
General work is usually to better coordinate with surrounding colleagues and related positions, clarify upstream and downstream work responsibilities, and plan communication time. Why do many people want to be freelancers? There are many reasons why they may be disgusted with this kind of general work, because it may involve mutual shirking, mutual influence and the need to promote communication and coordination.
But ordinary work is very important, just as we are tired of meetings, but there are few jobs that don't need meetings. For example, on the first day of the new company, Andy called the product directors of all departments for a long and intensive meeting. Therefore, the general work is more often for all team members to complete the work better, so it is also very important.
If post work is your core competitiveness, then general workers can better reflect your professionalism. During the meeting, you were secretly playing with your mobile phone, and the ringtone was particularly noisy. If you don't listen carefully to other people's speeches, you will definitely not leave a good impression on others when you talk about the plan yourself. Informal e-mail, many grammatical mistakes, imprecise summary and report, and failure to grasp the key points can also be understood as poor work.
The third dimension of work is "process" work.
This kind of work varies from company to company, and the same process may vary greatly from company to company. Why do many companies have induction training? In fact, apart from company culture and product introduction, most of the training contents are generally related to process work.
For example, attendance can be regarded as a process work, but the requirements of each company will be different. Some companies are very strict about punching in. They must punch in the attendance machine within the specified time, and even punch in according to their fingerprints. Once they miss the time, they may be late or absent, and their wages will be deducted. Some companies are better, maybe near the company, you can punch in your mobile phone with the mobile phone attendance App, and the time is not necessarily strict. You can work flexibly and get off work late if you are late. Some companies don't even need attendance.
In addition to attendance, such as leave, approval, reimbursement, information security and other work is also a very common process work. This kind of work is not directly related to the post work and general work mentioned above. They may be more like a company's system and values. If you work in this company, you must follow this system, otherwise it may affect you personally.
For example, in a company with strict attendance, you are often late, leave early and ask for leave; A company attaches great importance to information security, but if you copy the contents of the company's computer, even if your job competition is fierce, you are likely to be fired.
It is also a plot in Ode to Joy, in which Qiu Yingying reimburses his supervisor with an invoice, but there is no comment because of the problem with the invoice. , repeatedly harassed, failed to complete the repayment on time. Although there are drama elements in TV series, there are indeed many normative requirements for the reimbursement process, which varies greatly from company to company.
The reimbursement processes of the two companies I have experienced are very different. The first rule is very strict. According to the regulations, all invoices must be pasted on a piece of paper. First, it must be read and signed by the supervisor, and then scanned. Then, according to the complicated filling requirements, it is submitted to the PC for strict electronic flow approval, and then the paper is sent to the secretary's financial department. Another company is much simpler, that is, submit the electronic flow to the supervisor for approval, but it is simpler, and then give the invoice to the secretary.
So the process work is not difficult. You can't make mistakes in this kind of work as long as you are careful. If this kind of work is always not done well, it will leave a bad impression on supervisors and personnel, and even affect their career development.
The fourth dimension of work is "auxiliary" work.
Since it is called auxiliary work, it is slightly less important than previous post work, general work and process work, but it must not be ignored. If the auxiliary work is done well, it will be helpful to other dimensions of work, and even indirectly affect the evaluation of your work performance by colleagues and superiors.
Auxiliary work includes daily communication and interaction with colleagues, training and learning, and knowledge sharing. Many people think that it is enough to work hard to improve the competitiveness of their jobs, but this is not entirely the case. I think as long as I am in a team, I will participate in the communication with my colleagues in the department. Maybe your team has a WeChat group. Sometimes people chat after work and share things that have nothing to do with work, but you never talk to them or interact with them. If you never take part in team-building activities organized by the department, you always have lunch alone. What do you think your colleagues and supervisors will think of you?
The company has all kinds of training, and the industry has all kinds of exchange activities. Others actively participate, improve themselves, and then share them with team members, but you never participate. If you are not recognized as a "big cow" or "great god" at all, but just an ordinary employee with average business ability, who do you think the supervisor will give you if you have the opportunity of promotion and salary increase?
Or take Qiu Yingying and Guan Guan in Ode to Joy as an example. In many "soft" competitiveness, Qiu Yingying may just have a good relationship with colleagues at the same level, so colleagues at the same level can comfort her and help her when she encounters problems, but her relationship with the boss and other leaders is not handled well, so the boss and the personnel manager don't like her very much. Her performance in auxiliary work such as learning and promotion is also unsatisfactory. In addition, as mentioned above, her job competitiveness is not enough, her process work is not done well, and her career is in jeopardy. Guan Guan is a little better, because she is gentle and studious, so we can think that she is doing better in assisting, so colleagues are willing to teach her. Although her job competitiveness is not high (due to school education), we can also see that her boss is still willing to give her advice.
Auxiliary work is more like a person's "soft" competitiveness, which can reflect a person's emotional intelligence, workplace interpersonal relationship, learning ability and so on. If the auxiliary work is done well, you may get more help in your post work. For example, department leaders and colleagues are more willing to give everything for each other. General work is easier, for example, it is easier to promote work because of good relations with colleagues around; It can even improve the efficiency of process work, such as speeding up the reimbursement approval process.
The four work dimensions introduced here will have a lot to do with your position, work atmosphere and company culture, and cannot be generalized. Maybe some people think that as long as they do their jobs well, they don't have to care too much about others. There are such people, but they are basically awesome people, such as Tu Youyou, such as Jobs, such as Prada the Devil, but you are not such a person. As long as you are in the workplace, in the company, and in the team, if you are not the irreplaceable role, then you must comprehensively improve your work ability in four dimensions. Failure in any dimension will affect your development.
