Do you take the initiative to strike up conversations with locals when traveling? Why?
It is one of my favorite things to do and chat with local people while traveling, and I think it is very meaningful.
The traditional way of traveling is to get on the bus to sleep, get off the bus to take pictures, and don’t know anything when asked. This kind of travel has no appeal to me. As a self-media person who travels frequently, in addition to seeing the scenery, understanding the local customs and customs is also an important part of travel.
It is necessary to prepare relevant strategies before traveling. However, what you see on paper is ultimately shallow, but you know that you have to do it personally. If you want to truly have a relatively comprehensive understanding of the local area, you naturally cannot do without exploring on the ground.
Let me share with you my little secret. When traveling, I especially like to chat with local elderly people, because from their mouths, I can learn about the past of a place. After all, the old people have lived there for generations. Compared with young people, the years and rain, dew, and wind they have experienced are enough to support the history of the place.
Knowing the details is of far-reaching significance for understanding local history and folk customs.
Huizhou has always been an existence that haunts me in my dreams. Although the name Huizhou has become a thing of the past, and the six counties in one prefecture have long been scattered in different administrative districts today, the historical and cultural heritage of ancient Huizhou is still attractive enough.
In the 1980s, the Huizhou area was renamed the prefecture-level city Huangshan City, and the name Huizhou was bid farewell to it. Even though it was actually Huizhou, it became more and more confusing to tourists from other places.
Once when I was traveling to several ancient villages in southern Anhui, I chatted with some old ladies sitting in front of their homes. They told me about the folk songs of ancient Huizhou.
The most profound impression on me is that sentence: I didn’t practice cultivation in my previous life and was born in Huizhou. Thirteen or fourteen years old, throw it out. ?This sentence shocked my soul greatly. This was something I had never been exposed to before, so I asked what the story told in the ballad was about.
My grandmothers told me that there are many mountains in Huizhou but little arable land. In ancient times, Huizhou people had to travel over mountains and ridges to make tea or sell salt in order to support their families. This was a hard job. , it is impossible to bring both the elderly and children.
Most of the men who do business go out alone and leave their children to the care of the elderly.
When the grandmothers told the story, tears could be seen in their eyes, probably because they had touched the soft place deep in their hearts.
Chatting with local people can make your journey more full and layered. The experience of just looking at the flowers is really not interesting. Being able to go deep into the local area and be a "local" even for a short time is the greatest meaning of travel.
