The American moth is also known as the American lantern moth, autumn curtain caterpillar, and autumn curtain moth. It belongs to the Lepidoptera family Scutellariae. The female and male body lengths are 12 to 15 mm and 9 to 12 mm respectively, with wingspans respectively. It is 33~44mm and 23~34mm.

The body is pure white with no other color spots, and the compound eyes are dark brown; the female’s antennae are zigzag-shaped and brown; the male’s antennae are bidentate and black. Life habits

American moth adults have phototaxis and odortaxis, and are highly sensitive to fishy odors. Therefore, they live in sparse trees. , places with good lighting conditions or places with bad smells such as puddles and toilets have serious occurrences.

The mating time of adults is usually between 3 and 4 o'clock in the morning. They lay eggs on the back of leaves that night or the next day after mating. The eggs are arranged in a single layer and form a block. There are hundreds of eggs in one piece, and there are more than one egg. Up to a thousand grains, and the egg-laying time is longer.

The larvae will spin silk and form webs a few hours after hatching. The first and second generation larvae mainly form white nets in the middle and lower parts of the crown, and the third generation larvae form white nets in the middle and upper parts of the crown. The young larvae feed on the mesophyll in the mesh curtain, and only the veins of the injured leaves are left in the form of white film and withered yellow.
