The eastern route passes through Huairou, Fengning County and then to Datan, which is about a 4-hour drive. The western route passes through the Badaling Expressway to Shacheng, Ben Chicheng, Guyuan and the last beach. It's easier and smoother than the Fengning side. The distance is slightly longer but the time is the same. There is no admission fee, and there are many attractions, such as Akagi Hot Spring, Yunzhou Reservoir, Bingshan Liang, etc. The Western Route is suitable for those who make a special trip to ride horses. Mulan Paddock is a general term. In a specific sense, it consists of three parts: Yudaokou Ranch (comprehensive), Mechanical Forestry Farm (forest) and Hongshan Military Horse Farm (grassland). The reason why Mulan Paddock is called Bashang by the locals is because it is located at the junction of the Inner Mongolia Plateau, the Loess Plateau and the North China Plain, starting from Maojingba in Haraqin Banner in the east, to the Sky Grassland in Laiyuan County in the west, and surrounding Beijing. Half a circle is like a dam. The criss-crossing terrain brings together all the representative scenery of the north. Mulan Weichang is located in the northeastern part of Hebei Province (Weichang Manchu and Mongolian Autonomous County, Chengde City), bordering the grasslands of Inner Mongolia; it has been a grassland with abundant water and grass and the proliferation of animals since ancient times. The "Thousand Miles of Pine Forest" was once a hunting place for the Liao emperors, and the "Mulan Paddock" was the place where the Qing emperors held the "Mulan Autumn Festival". In 1681 AD, Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty opened a hunting ground of more than 10,000 square kilometers here in order to train his army. In the first half of the Qing Dynasty, the emperor led the princes, ministers and elite soldiers of the Eight Banners to come here every year for hunting and tourism, which was known as the "Mulan Autumn Festival" in history. During the more than 140 years between Kangxi and Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty, 105 Mulan Autumn Festivals were held here.

Bashang usually starts snowing in November every year, and the ground is covered with ice and snow until March of the following year. The average snow accumulation is more than 15 centimeters, so the New Year's Day and Spring Festival holidays are the best time to go.

Beijing to Chengde: Start from Sanyuanqiao and exit at Shuangluan District, Chengde. The total distance is 200km and the journey takes 2 hours.

Self-driving route: Beijing to Weichang County section. Please take Jingcheng Expressway-Chengde-Weichang directly. There are three routes from Weichang County to Bashang. The first is to go to the county town - Mechanical Forestry Farm - Hongshan Military Horse Farm. The second is the county seat - Yudaokou Ranch - Hongshan Military Horse Farm. The third is the county seat - Yudaokou Ranch - Dahekou - (fare evasion route).

The Class 2 highway from Chengde to Weichang County is easy to travel and takes about 2 hours. However, there are many vehicles on the road and few traffic rules are followed, so please drive carefully.

The Mechanical Forest Farm is at the intersection of Longtoushan Road in Weichang County - turn right - 80km. After arriving at the toll gate of the Machinery Forestry Farm, the entire 30 kilometers is a single lane with soft shoulders. Please drive carefully, especially when meeting cars. When going up the dam, be careful of the sharp turns of about 45 degrees.

Saihanba is a primary forest + secondary forest, dotted with small lakes in the forest. It is a good place to escape the summer heat and enjoy the coolness. Mulan Paddock is a mixed name in Manchu and Chinese. Mulan means whistle deer in Manchu. What is a whistle deer? When hunting, the Eight Banners soldiers wear stag antlers on their heads and imitate the cry of a male deer in the woods to lure the female deer. This is a trap hunting method. The paddock was where the Sentinel Deer was located, where the emperor hunted. Mulan Paddock was a virgin forest and vast Mongolian grassland in the Qing Dynasty. In the late Qing Dynasty, the court ordered that the original forest of Mulan Paddock be cut down. By the late Qing Dynasty, all the virgin forests had been cut down. After the liberation of the country, in 1962, the state decided to build a large-scale mechanized forest farm here. After decades of hard work by forest farm workers, Mulan Paddock has become the largest artificial forest farm in the country, and the vast forest has regained its former vitality.

The paddock also retains more than a dozen cultural relics and historic sites from the Qing Dynasty emperors’ hunting and northern patrol paddocks, including the Dongmiao Palace, Qianlong’s Tiger Hunting Cave and stone carvings, and the ancient Great Wall stele, as well as the Dianjiang Platform and the General Ancient battlefield sites such as Paozi and Twelve Company Camps.

Mulan Weichang has four scenic spots: Saihanba National Forest Park (belonging to Hebei), Yudaokou Grassland Forest Scenic Area (belonging to Hebei), Hongsongwa National Nature Reserve (belonging to Hebei), Wulan Butong Grassland (Hongshan Army Horse Farm) (belongs to Inner Mongolia). The pass for scenic spots in Hebei Province is 150 yuan, and the ticket for Hongshan Military Field in Inner Mongolia is 120 yuan per person. Before the Qing Dynasty, Bashang was basically a nomadic tribe. Later, Han people moved from Guannei (Juyongguan) (south of Zhangjiakou) for cultivation, so the residential buildings changed from the previous ones. The yurt was converted into a fixed building. In the past, there were many adobe houses on Bashang. The windows were small and papered with hemp paper. There was a big kang inside by the window, which was burned with firewood and used for heating and cooking. When winter comes, the roof and back wall must be covered tightly with firewood to resist the wind and cold. Many new brick houses are built on the dam, where parents and children live separately, and some even have bathing facilities.

Tourists mostly use yurts and earthen houses (farmhouses) to provide accommodation for guests. The yurts are equipped with modern facilities and the farmhouse kangs are warm and interesting. Resorts invested by outsiders are also common, and are particularly expensive during peak seasons. Horseback riding is the biggest highlight of Bashang Grassland. It can be said that if there is no horseback riding on Bashang tour, his life will be over. There is the largest racecourse near Beijing with a radius of more than 20 miles on the dam. There are also horses with the cheapest price. Here, ordinary people can truly experience the fun of horseback riding. The price is not too high. In less than 2 hours, you can understand the essentials of horseback riding and the feeling of riding a horse wildly - it is really great! ! !

Also, many people in the city raise horses at farmhouses on Bashang. Why? Just because this is a paradise for horses.
