Yungang Grottoes are located at the southern foot of Wuzhou Mountain, about 16 km west of Datong City, and on the northern bank of Wuzhou River. They were built in the era of Pingcheng, the capital of the Northern Wei Dynasty. Different from the Longmen Grottoes excavated in Luoyang in the later period, Yungang Grottoes not only have the traditional artistic style of China, but also combine the artistic features of ancient India, the Western Regions and the Central Plains.

2. Hanging Temple

Hangkong Temple is located between the cliffs of Cuiping Peak in Jinlong Gorge of Hengshan Mountain. Founded in the Northern Wei Dynasty, it has a history of 1500 years. The layout is rigorous and the scale is grand, covering an area of 66,000 square meters. It is the earliest and best preserved Liaojin Temple complex in China.

5. Datong Ancient City Wall

Datong ancient city wall was built in the fifth year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty. It is tall and majestic, strong and steep, well-guarded and well-equipped. It is a famous town with distinctive features in the history of ancient military architecture in China. A major feature of Datong city wall is that its outline is like a gear, the pier column is protruding and the structure is trapezoidal, which is a special shape of Datong city wall fortification.
