How did the ancients cross Taihang Mountain?

As a barrier, Taihang Mountain stands between Beijing, Hebei, Shanxi and Henan provinces, which is a very important geographical dividing line. The altitude to the west of Taihang Mountain gradually rises to the loess high slope, and to the east of Taihang Mountain is the North China Plain in Ma Pingchuan. To the ancients, it was like Taihang Mountain. How did they get through it?

Eight gongs in Taihang, the so-called gongs stop at the mountain. It was through these eight routes that the ancients realized the communication between the east and the west of Taihang Mountain. The scenery of these eight roads is different, and many relics have been preserved. From north to south, these eight gongs are:

Military pass

Junduhong, located in Juyong Mountain in the northwest of Changping County, Beijing, is the main throat leading to Zhangjiakou and Inner Mongolia grasslands. There are many quaint towns and villages along the military capital, many of which have rammed earth walls. The army has crossed the Great Wall Line. In addition to the neatly repaired Great Wall Scenic Area, there are some ancient Great Walls that have not been repaired, which have a unique flavor in the vicissitudes of life.

Flying Fox is located between the northern part of Laiyuan County and Yuxian County in Hebei Province, where the mountains are steep and the first line is slightly connected. You don't have to climb mountains and mountains like the ancients. You can experience the precipitousness of flying fox by driving today. Yuxian and Laiyuan are two big counties with rich tourism resources. Yuxian is characterized by castles, and Laiyuan is famous for its mountains. The main roads between these two counties overlap with the flying fox, so you can also appreciate the preciseness of flying fox by driving.

Pu yinfeng

Puyinlong is located in Yixian County, Hebei Province. Puyinlan Palace is connected to Laiyuan and Shanxi Lingqiu in the west and Hu Feilan Palace in the west. From Lingqiu to the north, you can go straight to Datong. This passage was an offensive route in ancient times. When Mongolia attacked gold, it could not capture the army, so it moved its capital here and reached the hinterland of the Central Plains.

Jingxing

Jingxing is located in Jingxing Mountain, Jingxing County, Hebei Province, at the junction of Hebei and Shanxi. Since ancient times, Jingxing has been the main thoroughfare of Hebei and a battleground for military strategists in past dynasties. The battles of Feishui, Hundred Regiments and Jingxing are the main battlefields. The most famous village in Jingxing is Shitou Village in Yu Jia. The houses in the village are made of stones of different sizes.

The mountain area between Wu 'an County and Cixian County in Hebei Province is the main road connecting northern Henan and southern Shanxi. Several towns located in the Taihang Mountain Basin are connected in series, and we can't feel the topographic changes of Taihang Mountain. There is a Xiangtang Temple in Jiaokou, which is divided into Nanxiangtang Temple and Beixiangtang Temple because it was built on two hills in the north and south respectively, of which Nanxiangtang Temple is the most famous. There is a grotto on the back hill of Nanxiangtang Temple, which was excavated in the Northern Wei Dynasty. Due to the age, the Buddha statues have been seriously damaged, both weathered and intentionally damaged.

Baiji dolphin

Bailong is a road from Shuangdi Village, Ma Dang Ge Township, Lingchuan County, Jincheng City, Shanxi Province to Thin-walled Township, Huixian County, Henan Province. Since ancient times, there have been many Shanxi merchants, and residents along the way have long had the idea of doing business. Bailong is the oldest and most complete commercial road among the eight places in Taihang Mountain. Up to now, there are still houses, shops and post stations in the Ming and Qing Dynasties for businessmen living between Shanxi and Henan.

Taihang Ji

Taihang Mountain is an important channel for communication between Jincheng and Jiaozuo, and also the main road for military, commercial and cultural exchanges. There is still a pass site in Taihang Mountain, the most famous of which is Wanzicheng, a round city made of stone, covering less than one acre. Because it looks like a rice bowl, it is called Wanzicheng. Although the area is small, it shows a trend of "one person keeps it, and ten thousand people can't force it".

Jiguanji

Guan Zhe County, located in Jiyuan County, Henan Province, was the main road connecting Luoyang, the capital city, and Sanjin and other vassal states during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. This ancient road has a long history. Jin's capital was once moved between Yicheng, Quwo and Houma. At present, many ancient cities along the way only contain rammed earth. 1984, an ancient city of Shang dynasty was discovered near Guan Zhe.
