After several years of training, together with the members of the Lunar Eclipse Band, After disbanding, the three finally decided to form a brand new band, so in June 1998, "Crystal Butterfly" was officially established.

Naming

The reason why the band was named "Crystal Butterfly", guitarist Wen Wei said: "Crystal Butterfly" is a very surreal name - crystal is very noble. and gorgeous, while butterflies are neutral and flirtatious. Drummer Chen Song believes that "butterfly" as an "element" feels too simple, so he chose "crystal", a mysterious and beautiful substance, for decoration. Approval

In November 1998, just the fifth month after the band was formed, "Crystal Butterfly", which had already emerged in Shanghai, signed up to participate in the joint competition between YAMAHA and MTV Music Channel. The "Thunder in the Music World" competition was held. Although the band had just been formed at the time, with years of tacit understanding, solid technology, and passionate yet romantic stage performance, the band's works and live performances were highly praised by the judges at home and abroad. Signing

After the band won the award, they used the bonus to buy an MD eight-track machine and began recording their own demos. Since then, the band has been active in the Shanghai music scene. After a series of performances, the band has attracted the attention of all parties with its unique live performances and attracted the attention of more and more music fans, becoming a representative band in Shanghai. The band's tours in Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou, Nanjing and other places also attracted the attention of various record companies. Recording

After signing the contract, "Crystal Butterfly" began to concentrate on preparing its first album under the arrangement of the company. During this period, the band also recruited Qiqi, a live bass player, which also made Li Pang more comfortable when singing live. In March 2002, the band arrived in Beijing and stayed in an apartment arranged for them by the company. After that, the band started touring in various bars and clubs, and warmed up for the pre-recording work of their first album. In May 2002, the band started recording the demo of their first album and named the album "Mysterious Journey". After the album demo recording was completed, the band returned to Shanghai for vacation, and in September they were the only Chinese band invited to perform at the opening ceremony of the "Shanghai International Tourism Festival". At that time, Feiyu, a band affiliated with Xinfeng Music, came to Shanghai to promote their first album "The Grapes of Wrath". The performance of the two bands on the same stage caused quite a stir in the local area. On December 6, 2002, "Crystal Butterfly" returned to Beijing and officially entered the studio to record an album. During the recording period, the band was also invited to participate in the New Year countdown performance held in Xintiandi, Shanghai. In March 2003, the pre-recording work for the album was successfully completed.

Long vacation

The sudden SARS epidemic made it impossible to proceed with the post-production work of the album, so the band returned to Shanghai in time to rest. In August 2003, Qiqi, who had been working together for more than a year, officially joined "Crystal Butterfly" as the bassist.

The injection of new blood allowed the band to start performing non-stop in a completely new state. On September 15, 2003, the band was once again invited to perform at the opening ceremony of the "Shanghai International Tourism Festival". Subsequently, "Crystal Butterfly" participated in the annual Shanghai Asia Music Festival performance held in Pudong Century Park on November 8. The performance was themed "Supporting Genuine, Suppressing Piracy, and Promoting Original Music" and featured performances by artists from China and Japan. Ten bands took turns to perform. In this rock concert that lasted for nearly six hours, "Crystal Butterfly" shocked the nearly 10,000 spectators with their gorgeous music and passionate live performance. On December 24, "Crystal Butterfly" and the other two brother bands "Feiyu" and "Kungfu" under "Xinfeng", as well as three other bands, went to Hefei to participate in the Christmas Rock Festival held at the Anhui Provincial Stadium. night.

During the vacation, the lives of the four members also experienced some changes, and the band also encountered some development problems. After all, as a veteran band in Shanghai, they felt a little disappointed when they saw newcomers releasing albums one after another, while their already completed records were delayed due to company plans. After a period of adjustment, they gradually calmed down in reality.

Spreading Wings

In May 2004, while Crystal Butterfly came to Beijing to participate in Chaoyang Pop Music Week performances, lead singer Li Pang went into the studio to record "Mysterious Journey" and "Scattered". English version. Producer Qiu Ao continued to make final touches on the arrangement of the completed album, during which many artists under Xinfeng Music contributed to the album. The mixing work of the album began in September. In the early morning of November 18th - the fourth anniversary of Crystal Butterfly's signing, all the album's production work was completed. Subsequently, the single "Scattered" as a pilot work won the runner-up on the Shanghai Oriental Chart, and Crystal Butterfly was included in the candidate list for the best band of the year.

In early 2005, after discussion, Xinfeng Music Production Department decided to divide all the works previously recorded by Crystal Butterfly into two albums for release. This also means that this record of Chinese rock music will be broken by Crystal Butterfly. At the same time, the production department also plans to edit some of the works not included in these two albums into an online EP in the autumn of 2005, which will only be available in the online field in the form of MP3 published.
