Where is the Rosh Temple Pagoda located?
The Luoshi Temple Pagoda is a famous scenic spot for religious tourism in Wuwei.
Standing on Wuwei North Street, it was built to commemorate Kumarajiva's achievements in promoting Buddhism and translating classics in Wucheng. The Luoshi Temple Pagoda was first built in Houliang (386-402). It was greatly expanded in the Tang Dynasty and repaired in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. During the Ming Dynasty, it became a major temple in Liangzhou, Shaanxi Province. On February 15, the 10th year of the Yingzong Zongtong reign, the Tripitaka was issued to Luoshi Temple. He also issued an imperial edict, which said: "Publish the Tripitaka, bestow it on the world, and spread it widely. One of the Tibetan scriptures is hereby placed in the great temple in Liangzhou, Shaanxi Province, and will be used as a permanent support." This edict is now well preserved in the Wuwei Municipal Museum.
The "Inscription of the Reconstruction of Luoshi Temple" written on the 26th day of Emperor Kangxi's reign in the Qing Dynasty records that the renovated Luoshi Temple "has a completely new look in its front and rear courtyards, making it a blessed place for the Five Liangs; its magnificent transformation makes it a resort in the west of Hexi Province." The existing Roshi Temple Pagoda has octagonal and twelve floors, 32 meters high, and is entirely made of strip square bricks. There are no doors on the third, fifth, and eighth floors from the bottom. The top is a gourd-shaped copper vase. There are small Buddhist niches on the east and west floors on the top floor. There are Buddha statues in the niches.
It is said to be made of real gold. It was destroyed by the earthquake in 1927 and rebuilt in 1934. The majestic Luoshi Temple Tower symbolizes the long and civilized history of the ancient city of Wuwei, and is also a witness to the cultural exchanges between China and the West on the Silk Road more than 2,500 years ago.
