Average elevation of the reserve 17m. According to several flood levels of 22m in 1990s, 33,300 hectares of protected areas can store about 17m cubic meters of flood.

2. It has the function of protecting biodiversity. Because the nature reserve is a vast and sparsely populated lake area, there are few factors of man-made destruction, so it is rich in biological resources and has a unique protection function for biodiversity.

3. Excellent migratory bird habitat conditions. The adaptable habitat attracts more and more migratory birds to come here for the winter.

4. It has high eco-tourism value. The natural landscape of the reserve is beautiful and close to the provincial capital. With the improvement of traffic conditions, more and more tourists are attracted to visit here (60 kilometers away from Nanchang, the road passes through the lake area, and migratory birds can be seen on the roadside).
