Chengtian Temple Pagoda, the main Buddhist temple in Xixia period, commonly known as "West Pagoda", is located in Chengtian Temple in the southwest corner of Yinchuan City, Ningxia, echoing the sea pagoda in the northern suburbs. Founded in Zong Yi, Xixia (1050), it has a history of more than 900 years. After three years of Qianlong, the original tower was seriously damaged in a strong earthquake. The existing tower was built in the 25th year of Jiaqing, Qing Dynasty (A.D. 1820), which basically retained the original modeling style of Xixia, but changed from thirteen floors to eleven floors. Chengtian Temple Pagoda is the only Xixia Pagoda with a construction date recorded in China.

Chengtian Temple Tower is an octagonal brick tower with dense eaves, with a total height of 64.5 meters and a tower body 1 1 floor. Climbing the stone steps, each side of the bottom is 5 meters long, and the east and west sides are about 22 meters long. The tower is built on a square abutment with a width of 26 meters. The whole tower is tall and straight, in pyramid style, simple and simple. You can enter the square tower room through the tower door, and the tower room adopts a "thick-walled hollow" wood floor structure. There are no windows or holes on 1-3 floor; 4- 10 floors, with arched windows and holes alternately arranged on each floor, with even floors in the east-west direction and odd floors in the north-south direction, and large round windows on the top floor. Looking out from the window, you can see the scenery of the ancient city and the traffic congestion, the towers of Yinchuan, the grain fields in the suburbs, the scattered residential areas and so on.

According to historical records, after the death of Yuan Hao, the founding emperor of Xixia, his son just turned one year old and ascended the throne of the emperor. Empress Dowager Cixi did not hide her family as the "eternal life" of Emperor Bao Yizong, but protected the "eternal life" of Xixia Jiangshan, and built this temple and stupa that was "blessed by heaven and protected for life". Liangzhou (now Wuwei) Chengtian Temple Pagoda, Huguo Temple and Ganzhou (now Zhangye) Sleeping Buddha Temple are all famous Buddhist resorts in Xixia.

Chengtian Temple is east-west and consists of two courtyards. The buildings and halls are large in scale; The front yard is the Five Buddhas Hall and the Chengtian Temple Tower; There are Wei Tuo Hall and Lying Buddha Hall in the backyard, which is also the location of Ningxian Museum. In ancient times, Chengtian Temple had "Celebrities from the East" and "Masters from the West", where incense was flourishing and tourists kept coming. Chengtian Temple Tower is the most striking building in the museum. Although it is not the original tower, it still maintains the basic shape of the original Xixia Pagoda, which has a distinctive artistic style of Xixia architecture, and is also the tallest brick tower among the existing 100 pagodas in Ningxia.

Chengtian Temple is now the seat of Ningxia Museum. The five Buddha halls, stupa, Wei Tuo hall and reclining Buddha hall in the courtyard were rebuilt in the 25th year of Jiaqing (1820), and Chengtian Temple Tower is located behind the five Buddha halls. The ancient trees in the courtyard are towering, and the trees cover the sky. In particular, it is worth mentioning that poplar, a rare tree species in the front yard, is said to be over 400 years old.
