Yuanshi County is located in the south-central part of Hebei Province. Jingxing County in the west, Zanhuang County in the southwest, Gaoyi County in the south, Zhaoxian County and Luancheng District in the east and Luquan District in the north. It is 39 kilometers long from east to west and 28 kilometers long from north to south.
At the beginning of the Warring States Period, Yuanshi County belonged to Zhongshan State, and after the demise of Zhongshan State, it belonged to Zhao State. The prince of Zhao began to seal Yuan here, hence the name Yuanshi County. Since the county was established in the early years of the Western Han Dynasty, it has a history of more than two thousand years.

This area of Yuanshi County was the frontier of Zhao at that time, and the land of Zhongshan was on the other side of Hutuo River in the north. Gongziyuan called his fief Yuanshi County.
