During our travels, reflections can be seen almost everywhere: in rivers, lakes and seas, lakes and ponds, pools of water, floors and windows, etc., you can see reflections. As long as we pay more attention, we can take beautiful reflection photography.

Here, I would like to introduce to you my experience and skills in photographing reflections.

1. When the front of the scene is in front light or side light, the outline and color of the reflection in the water are the clearest and most beautiful. At sunrise and sunset, there is basically no wind, the water is as calm as a mirror, and the reflection looks particularly beautiful. It is the best time to take reflection photos.

2. When the light is good, you can meter the light evenly. At sunrise and sunset, meter the light in bright areas. Use a smaller aperture to increase the depth of field. This will capture both the scenery and its reflection. Very clear.

3. A tripod and necessary filters are the keys to successful shooting.

A tripod can ensure sharp images at small apertures or long exposures. CPL polarizers can better eliminate reflections on the water and highlight reflections in the water. Neutral gray gradient filter can be used to prevent the sky from being overexposed. Especially CPL is very important for shooting reflections.

4. If the distance between the photographer and the scene is far, the ratio of the reflection to the real scene will be almost the same. If the distance is close and the angle of view is too high or too low, the ratio of the scene and the reflection will be inconsistent. Therefore, in the natural environment, we have to try different perspectives to find the best shooting angle.

5. Whether to place the reflection in front of the picture to form a symmetrical one, or to use an asymmetrical composition, is a matter of opinion. There is no certain conclusion. Specific issues must be analyzed in detail.

6. Water accumulation on the road, or intermittent or partial reflections in the water, often produce unexpected effects, and we must pay attention to capture them.

The first example shows the ice in the Tongzi River in the Forbidden City. Part of it melted at the beginning of spring, and the lights of the turrets were reflected in the water.

The second example shows the accumulated water on the sea road in Lashi, Lijiang, reflecting the colors of the trees.

7. Look for reflective objects around us.

Reflection photos do not necessarily have to be landscape photos with water in them. There are a large number of reflective surfaces in our daily lives, such as mirrors, glass, metal, ceramics, and even painted wood.

8. Search and practice more to accumulate experience.

The expressions of reflections are ever-changing and there are no certain rules. If you want to take pictures of different beautiful reflections, you must master the shutter speed. Quick capture can freeze the water surface and present a reflection that is both real and fake. world, and slow door can blur the details of the reflection and create a dynamic and special artistic conception.
