The beauty of a B&B does not lie in how beautiful the B&B is, but in how beautiful the countryside in which the B&B is located is

It is no exaggeration to say that among short-distance travel, nearly half of people travel for homestays. B&Bs are so popular, but did you know that the vast majority of B&Bs failed to survive 2019...

How do B&Bs design hits? How can we create a homestay ecosystem? How to shape the influence of B&B? How to attract young people... Xia Yuqing, founder and chairman of B&B, will share "Without B&Bs, there will be no future in rural areas" at the "2020 China Rural Leisure and Tourism TED New Year's Eve Lecture".

Xia Yuqing believes, “B&B is just an entrance into the countryside, and it is impossible to directly change the countryside. We can only slowly change it by stimulating other industries or the interaction between urban and rural areas in this way. The decline of rural areas is a global problem. No one can change the problem of sex. All we can do is make some partial changes to it. ”

Unlike Taiwan, B&Bs have their own industry. We don’t have our own properties, so we lease them for 10 or 20 years, like Moganshan for 30 years. It is not a farmhouse, Japanese Minpaku, Airbnb, etc. In mainland China, B&B is a kind of life aesthetics and a niche aesthetic. It must bring its own traffic. Wherever you go, people will follow you.

In fact, we only need to capture a little bit of the beauty of the B&B, whether it is in the landscape, architecture, or design.

Nowadays, there are many beautiful B&Bs. A single B&B can create a small beauty in a world. B&Bs are a representative of small but beautiful life aesthetics.

Why can't good B&Bs unite together and go to the same place to suddenly open up the situation and change the local B&B ecology?

Xia Yuqing’s team decided to go to a distant place, a place where it was impossible to have a B&B or even sell it in their imagination. They made a bold attempt.

A cluster of B&Bs has been built in a village beside the Yellow River and the Tengger Desert. There, there is a shop under the most beautiful pear tree called Xipo, which is known as the "Chinese Morocco". You don't have to go abroad, and you can enjoy a better style than Morocco there.

In Huanghe Suji, you can see 5 B&B brands including Xipo, Da Le Zhi Ye, Feiniaoji, Nan'an and Xuli, including restaurants, parent-child ranches, internationally renowned architect bookstores, and a High-end travel brand. In addition, each brand introduced has its own personality and will not form vicious competition with each other.

Yellow River Suji has made its contribution to B&Bs and even the entire northwest. In the past, even on National Day and May Day, there was not a single customer here. Now, even though it only opened seven days before the Spring Festival, the B&B still has an occupancy rate of 85%. Why can they create such a hit product in a place where no other cultural tourism project has survived in 5 years? In addition to using homestays as the first wave of impact, developing travel routes may be the most critical.

"There are many ancient Xixia villages on both sides of the Yellow River. We will also drive guests to visit these ancient villages. Walking there, we will see many Damai Field rock paintings at our feet. These rock paintings were originally difficult to realize, even if There may be no people going to a scenic spot, but when it becomes a niche travel product, where we prepare afternoon tea for you and accompany it with the Gobi Desert, it gradually becomes popular." Xia Yuqing. explain.

In addition, they have made a lot of supporting facilities to meet the needs of urbanites, allowing tourists to enjoy the beautiful life in the city even in remote and desolate places. In addition to bookstores, life aesthetics museums, small black bakeries, etc., each B&B will bring its own business.

Rural tourism is being practiced everywhere now, but rural tourism is unsustainable. We can only rely on a single peak season - May Day, National Day, winter and summer vacations, etc. Furthermore, after tourists take a quick look at the scenery, they will not stay to experience it, will not remember it, and will not recommend it.

Therefore, when Xia Yuqing and his team were working on rural revitalization, after the establishment of B&Bs, how to revive agriculture or agricultural specialties through B&Bs? As long as there is one thing in a place, it is enough to change the local situation and Bringing gifts from the earth to the villagers.

Acquisition of local specialty products brings great value-added space to B&Bs. Songyang is a model of China's rural revitalization and was rated as a "sample of ancient China" by Professor Luo Deyin of Tsinghua University. It preserves the appearance of ancient villages 100 years ago, and 77 villages are rated as traditional Chinese villages. The first city Xia Yuqing joined was Songyang. In Songyang, they have two B&Bs, one of which is called "葑屋".

The village has ancient brown sugar that has been handed down since the Qianlong period. At that time, it only cost 3-5 yuan per pound. At that time, Xia Yuqing was still working in the media and repackaged this product. Now, the government has built a brown sugar museum and brown sugar workshop, which has improved the entire brown sugar industry.

"Only when young people return to the countryside can the countryside have hope." This is a view that Xia Yuqing has always adhered to.

Xia Yuqing said, "We believe that B&Bs should help young people, or let young people help you." In order to help rural revitalization, they cooperated with the School of Architecture of Tsinghua University and the China Renaissance Foundation to hold 8 consecutive sessions of China Helping Rural Affairs Renaissance Forum, each event is attended by about 500-600 people.

B&Bs provide a foothold for rural revitalization. Young people can come back and find decent jobs in B&Bs. Moganshan is a very good example. When I went to Moganshan more than ten years ago, it was an empty mountain. Now Moganshan is full of people, including young people.

Rural reconstruction is a national movement that requires the participation of more organizations with sentiments and ideals. The beauty of a B&B does not lie in how beautiful the B&B is, but in how beautiful the countryside in which the B&B is located is.
