Drivers can drive a motor vehicle with a valid electronic driver's license. When encountering police enforcement inspections, they can choose to present a paper or electronic driver's license. Drivers can submit their electronic driver's license when handling driver's license verification, license renewal, traffic violations or traffic accidents.

When the public security traffic control department handles law enforcement, handles traffic violations and accidents, and handles related business, it will no longer verify paper driver's licenses for drivers who present electronic driver's licenses, and shall not drive without carrying the paper driver's license with them. Penalties will be imposed on the basis of evidence.

Article 19 To drive a motor vehicle, one must obtain a motor vehicle driving license in accordance with the law certificate. To apply for a motor vehicle driving license, one must meet the driving license conditions stipulated by the public security department of the State Council; after passing the examination, the traffic management department of the public security organ will issue a motor vehicle driving license of the corresponding category. Anyone holding an overseas motor vehicle driving license who meets the driving license conditions stipulated by the public security department of the State Council and passes the assessment by the traffic management department of the public security organ may be issued a Chinese motor vehicle driving license. Drivers shall drive motor vehicles in accordance with the permitted driving types stated on their driving licenses; when driving a motor vehicle, they shall carry their motor vehicle driving license with them. Any unit or individual other than the traffic management department of the public security organ shall not collect or detain a motor vehicle driving license. Article 24 The traffic management department of the public security organ shall, in addition to imposing administrative penalties in accordance with the law, implement a cumulative points system for motor vehicle drivers who violate road traffic safety laws and regulations. The traffic management department of the public security organ shall detain the motor vehicle driving license of motor vehicle drivers whose cumulative demerit points reach the prescribed value, educate them on road traffic safety laws and regulations, and retake the examination; if they pass the examination, their motor vehicle driving license shall be returned.

For motor vehicle drivers who comply with road traffic safety laws and regulations and have no accumulated points within one year, the verification period of their motor vehicle driving license can be extended. Specific measures shall be prescribed by the public security department of the State Council.
