What is the employment status of journalism and advertising?

After I graduated from advertising, I met many junior students who asked this question. A large proportion of them were civil servants, radio, film and television bureaus, newspapers and other local media. In fact, I really want to say that such a limited When it comes to employment options, your university will have to work hard to read books related to the business test, application essay, and civil service examination. This is no different from taking the civil service examination in other majors. (I didn’t mention it if my family had a background in working in the media. A classmate of mine got a job at a TV station with money from his family!)

In fact, in addition to the iron rice bowl, there are many employment options for students who study advertising after graduation. It is very broad. One of the reasons why I like this major is that I have been exposed to and learned a lot of types of knowledge. You are already a sophomore, and I believe you have learned a lot of courses. Let me give some examples: advertising companies (planning, copywriting, AE, brand promotion professionals, etc.); companies regardless of industry (planning department work, product department, marketing department and other related work); I am currently engaged in the Internet software industry, and my position is PM product manager, if you want to know the job content of a PM, you can go to any recruitment website and look at the job requirements for PMs in major companies (Tencent, Baidu, Sina, etc.). I will not elaborate here one by one.

To be honest, there are a lot of people who like photography and traveling. There are a lot of young people around me. The key is whether you want to turn your hobby into a career. We have photography courses for sophomores and juniors. , there are also graphic design and video editing courses. If you really like it, then study hard, and it will be no problem to become a job in the future. (There is a junior fellow who is very good at making films and also loves to specialize in research. His time-lapse photography has been featured on CCTV, and he is now the main photographer.)

It is easier to find a job than a pure journalism major. Although I learned only half a dozen things.

In fact, the employment opportunities for journalism majors are very wide, and they can be anything related to communication. Of course, the most important thing is to look at personal abilities.

With more practice and real materials, there is nothing to worry about.

When I was in college, I ran a media studio and achieved national-level projects. However, it ended due to various reasons. You need to be cautious when starting a business. After graduation, I was inexplicably invited to Shenzhen TV station by phone. After several rounds of interviews, I became an investigative reporter. At that time, I felt that my studies were useful. It was a desperate effort to risk my life for secret investigations. It was a great physical pressure and an even greater psychological pressure. Nowadays, it is difficult for larger media to join the establishment, and their income is also unstable. To be honest, it is difficult to do the job of journalism now. We still need to keep up with the pace of the Internet, and don’t limit ourselves to news, interviews, and writing. , I feel that the most useful course in journalism is the communication course.

Tell me a few employment directions that you know about. Respondents in these industries have all worked or at least interviewed.

Traditional media, print media: If you can get into an official newspaper, it will be relatively comfortable. Although you can't make much money, it is not recommended for people who have just graduated. TV stations: Phoenix TV, Mango TV, and Shenzhen TV are still different from ordinary local TV stations. The former really need to rely on strength and hard work. The more commercialized, the more hope they have to get ahead. Don’t think about money at first. Later, the income is still considerable. Ordinary local stations, the respondent worked as an intern at Hainan station for one year, and basically lived there waiting to die. However, compared to print media, it is more interesting. There is hope of earning 10K from a first-tier TV station. For ordinary local stations, 5K is good, and the benefits are not All the same. It's still possible to recruit or prepare staff if you have the opportunity. As for gray income, there is always some in some positions. It is not clear enough not to say this. Generally speaking, in journalism, in the media, you can do directing, editing, packaging, and videography. It depends on your opportunities and skills.

Let’s talk about the two love-hate positions of director and reporter. When I was working as a director at Hainan TV station, I was doing concerts and activities. I usually got to meet some second- and third-tier stars and work as a director. Assistant, I have nothing to do to edit films and so on. I often work overtime, but it's not boring. If it weren't for geographical reasons, I would have stayed there.

The reporter was sad. He didn’t submit a resume at that time, but after receiving an interview invitation, he went to Guangzhou and Shenzhen, and after several rounds of interviews, he became an investigative reporter. Before becoming a full-time employee, I had no basic salary and relied on ratings. Normally, I got 10K and the benefits were pretty good. But in addition to videography and videographers, you have to do all the news, research and interviews, writing, post-production, and program delivery yourself. If you don’t make it, you won’t have money. Moreover, investigative reporters, for the sake of ratings, do not care about murders and accidents. The most difficult thing is to investigate the shady stories of companies. The respondent is new to the industry and does not understand, so he dug his own holes and chose a question that no veteran reporter likes to touch. For the sake of journalistic ideals, the author has worked hard to investigate for nearly a month, contacting the victims, consulting lawyers, pretending to make secret visits to companies, and even receiving personal threats. Finally, the results are about to come out. When the company learned that it was under investigation, the public relations department was dispatched. After a month of hard work, the respondent was not allowed to air the program and only received a few hundred yuan in hard-earned fees, which was not enough to cover the expenses of the investigation.

I later learned that there are some things that you can’t just do if you want to. The truth depends not on whether you dare to speak, but on whether your superiors allow you to speak. When I was in school, I had such a wonderful ideal of journalism. Only after I graduated did I realize that in the big environment, doing journalism and learning journalism are two different things. Either adapt, behave tactfully, accept red envelopes when they are due, and know what to repay and what not to repay. In the end, the respondent was not unwilling to compromise, but felt that it was really boring and left.

Media companies: big ones like Canxing, first-tier companies like Guangguang, smaller film and television companies, smaller wedding companies, small film crews.

It feels great when you first join a big company. After you get in, you will find that there are pitfalls, but compared to the media, it is fair and you rely on ability to make a living. For small companies, it depends on luck. For example, the income of a large-scale variety show production team is 3K, and they all get paid based on the performance of the program. The program makes money, and you also make money. The more is 2-3W, and the less is the basic salary. And there is a talent elimination system, where those who do well will move up, and those who rank at the bottom every month will leave.

Advertising company: In fact, in 4A companies and other advertising companies, journalism is completely fine from a professional perspective. If you have enough imagination, understand the relevant knowledge, and like it, it is actually a good choice. I interviewed but didn't get in. This industry is very difficult when you first get into it, but if you can endure it, your annual salary will increase by one hundred thousand, two hundred thousand or three hundred thousand as you jump from job to job.

Internet, self-media: Sina, NetEase, become an editor? In fact, I feel that young and energetic companies such as Baozou Comics and Zealer are more suitable for young people. I really wanted to go, but I didn’t succeed, which is a pity. It is understood that the income is not high, but it greatly improves personal abilities.

Journalism is actually a good job for all kinds of communication-related positions. The key is that it is suitable for you and has real materials.

Finally, starting a business is a dream, right? Even if you fail once, you will always do it again. Haha

I am a bad student. I graduated from one of the three schools in Hainan Island and no one on the island knows about it. Compared with other industries, such as doctors and lawyers, the postgraduate entrance examination is not that important. But if you want to go to BAT, it is easier to go to graduate school. Of course, if you can work hard and gain sufficient experience after graduation, 3 years of experience will be enough to kill many newly graduated 985/211 graduate students. It's up to you to choose.

In the Internet age, journalism can no longer be limited to traditional news.
