Where is Chongming Island located at the mouth of the Yangtze River?

Chongming Island, located at the mouth of the Yangtze River, is the third largest island in China. Known as "the gateway of the Yangtze River and Yingzhou in the East China Sea", it is the largest estuarine alluvial island and the largest sand island in the world.

Chongming Island has a land history of over 1300 years, with an existing area of 104 1.2 1 square kilometer and an altitude of 3.5-4.5 meters. The island is flat, fertile, lush and rich in products, and is a famous land of plenty.

Chongming Island faces the river on three sides. The southeast borders the East China Sea of China. The west and south face Changshu City and Taicang City in Jiangsu Province and Jiading, Baoshan, Chuansha and Nanhui County in Shanghai across the river respectively. The east and north are separated from Qidong City and Haimen City in Jiangsu Province by a strip of water.

Chongming Island is divided into two administrative regions, which belong to Nantong City, Jiangsu Province (later to Qidong and Haimen County) and Chongming County, Shanghai. But Qidong and Haimen are very small, so most people mistakenly think that the whole island belongs to Chongming County, which is wrong.
