What are the famous big temples in Shanghai?
1, Jing 'an Temple
Located in Jing 'an District, Shanghai, the history can be traced back to the tenth year of Sun Wu Chiwu in the Three Kingdoms (247), formerly known as Hudu Chongxuan Temple. In the first year of Xiangfu in Song Dynasty (1008), it was renamed Jing 'an Temple. In the ninth year of Jiading in the Southern Song Dynasty (12 16), the temple was moved from Wusong River to Lupu Boiling Well (now Nanjing West Road), which was built before Shanghai.
Jing 'an Temple has a total construction area of 22,000 square meters. The whole temple forms the pattern of front hall and rear tower. It is the oldest Buddhist temple in Shanghai, and consists of three main buildings: Daxiong Hall, Tianwang Hall and three temples. There are famous paintings of Badashan people and long grass scrolls of Wen Zhiming's original pipa. Jing 'an District is also famous for Jing 'an Temple.
The architectural style of Jing 'an Temple is similar to that before Ming Dynasty, and the typical representative is the shape of bucket arch. Jing 'an Temple is one of the key Chinese Buddhist temples in China, one of the ancient temples of Yan Zhen School in Shanghai, and a cultural relic protection unit in Shanghai.
2. Toringi
Tolin Temple is located at No.0/50 Lindong Street, Zhujing Town, Jinshan District, Shanghai, formerly known as Kannonji. It was founded by monks from Yuan Dynasty to Dayuan (1308) and has a history of nearly 700 years. In the second year of Qing Dynasty (13 13), it was changed to Tolin Temple, which is the largest single building in Punan area.
In 700 years of wind and rain, it suffered from war, fire and reconstruction repeatedly. 1987 a surviving hall of the tuolin temple was listed as a municipal cultural relics protection unit by the Shanghai municipal people's government. It was rebuilt and expanded in 2007 and officially opened to tourists in September. Now it has been rebuilt, with the largest indoor Buddha statue in Asia, about 34 meters high. Donglinfang, the business circle around Tolin Temple, has also begun to take shape.
3. Longhua Temple
Longhua Temple, located in Longhua Street in the southern suburbs of Shanghai, is the oldest and largest ancient temple in Shanghai.
The name of Longhua Temple comes from the story of Maitreya Bodhisattva becoming Buddha under Longhua tree in Buddhist scriptures. It is said that Longhua Temple was built by Sun Quan for his mother in the Three Kingdoms period, and it has been 1700 years since. However, there are historical records that Longhua Temple was built in the second year of Taiping Xingguo in the Northern Song Dynasty (AD 977).
In the third year of the Northern Song Dynasty (A.D. 1066), Longhua Temple was renamed as "Kongxiang Temple", and there are still some remains of "Kongxiang Temple". During the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1403- 1424), the original name of Longhua Temple was restored. In the second year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1574), it was given the name "Daxing National Wanshou Huaci Temple", and the name of the temple is still Longhua Temple.
1953, the Shanghai Buddhist Association copied the Buddha statues of various temples, rebuilt the temples and built a new Buddhist scripture building. Peach Blossom Garden in the west of the temple was turned into Xue Hua Park in the 17th year of the Republic of China (1928), and later renamed Longhua Park, which is now a part of Longhua Martyrs Cemetery. 1959, Longhua Temple was listed as a cultural relic protection unit in Shanghai.
4. Jade Buddha Temple

The founder and first abbot of the Jade Buddha Temple was Master Huigen.
Jade Buddha Temple was listed as a key Buddhist temple in the Han nationality area in the State Council in 1983, and was announced as a municipal building protection unit by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government in 1994.
5. Sinnijorge

It is a famous Buddhist temple in Shanghai, formerly known as "Manju Temple" and commonly known as "Big Temple", and it is a national cultural relic protection unit. There used to be many temples in Putuo District of Shanghai, but most of them were destroyed. Among the existing temples, Xinyi Temple is the earliest and most influential temple. This temple was originally located in the officialdom (near Dachang today) and was named Xinyi Temple.
Shang Yong 'an was converted into a temple in Jiading period of Southern Song Dynasty (1208- 1224). In the 7th year of Yuanyou (1320), Miaoxin monk moved it to the northeast of the intersection of Taopu and Liyuanbang, and renamed it Xinyi Temple.
The name of the temple is taken from the explanation in the Buddhist scripture "On Cheng Weizhi": "Truth is truth, which is obvious and true; For example, as usual, the watch has not changed. It is said that this is true. In all places, it is often as it is, so it is true. " The couplets on the beams of the temple have the sentence "Buddha's day glorifies and worships the prosperous times, and the people are salty and truly enlightened", which points out the origin of the temple name.
