Where are Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai from?
According to relevant personnel from the China Folklore Association, there are about 10 places across the country that claim to be the hometown of the "Butterfly Lovers". In several places that have jointly applied for "World Heritage", everyone tells their own story about the "Butterfly Lovers". .
1. Yinzhou version: The Yinzhou version tells the story of the "hidden marriage" between the Jin Dynasty magistrate and the Ming Dynasty chivalrous girl. In Ningbo, Zhejiang, it is said that Liang Shanbo was the Yinzhou county magistrate in the Jin Dynasty. He was an upright official. Because he offended A powerful man was brutally tortured to death, and the people built a big tomb for him. Zhu Yingtai was a chivalrous woman from Shangyu in the Ming Dynasty. She robbed the rich and helped the poor, but was later killed by the powerful.
In order to commemorate them, the locals buried the two together, which was regarded as a secret marriage. There are existing tombs of Liang Zhu and Liang Zhu in Yinzhou, as well as the former residence of Liang Zhu. There is an old saying circulating there, "If a couple wants to grow old together, the Liangshan Bo Temple will come to them together."
2. Zhucheng version
The Legend of the Butterfly Lovers in Zhucheng, Shandong was included in the first batch of intangible cultural heritage in Zhucheng City and was announced in 2007.
3. Hangzhou version: Liang Shanbo’s classmates at Wansong Academy read the Yue opera "Butterfly Lovers". There is a libretto of "Caoqiao Sworn Worship", which talks about Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, who is disguised as a man. They met while studying in Qiantang County, recognized each other, and became "brothers" at "Caoqiao", which refers to the Caoqiao Pavilion next to Wangjiang Gate in the east city of Hangzhou.
It is said that the first place where Liang Zhu’s classmates studied was Wansong Academy on the West Lake. Therefore, the people also called this place the Liang Zhu Academy. Its predecessor was Baoen Temple. It was rebuilt into Wansong Academy in the 11th year of Hongzhi in the Ming Dynasty. The academy was destroyed during the Chongzhen period. After Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, it was renamed Fuwen Academy.
4. Fengqiu version: Qingling Terrace is located in Qingdui, 25 miles northeast of Fengqiu County. During the Warring States Period, King Kang of the Song Dynasty was traveling by car and saw a naturally beautiful mulberry-picking girl who wanted to take her as his concubine. People found out that the girl was the wife of Han Ping, his subordinate Han Ping's wife. In order to see the Xi clan, King Kang of the Song Dynasty ordered a Qingling Terrace to be built to watch. The Xi clan was afraid, so he wrote a song to reject it and threw himself to the platform to his death. Han Ping also committed suicide.
King Kang of the Song Dynasty buried the two men separately. A catalpa tree (also known as acacia tree) grew out of each of the two tombs, with roots at the bottom and branches at the top. There were two mandarin ducks, one male and one male, perched permanently. The tree screamed sadly, and then turned into a butterfly and flew away. According to the legend of Liang Zhu's transformation into a butterfly, this is the origin of the story.
5. Runan version: The story of the Butterfly Lovers circulated in Runan has a beginning and an end, and is quite complete. The plot is roughly similar to the common story spread across the country. However, the earliest version of the legend of the Butterfly Lovers is from the Western Jin Dynasty. The legend here is different from the common saying, which is the most unique and worthy of further study in the Runan version.
In December 2005, Runan County in Henan Province was named the "Hometown of China's Butterfly Lovers" by the Chinese Folk Literature and Artists Association. In June 2006, "The Legend of Butterfly Lovers" was included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage lists.
