The Taishan Cableway includes the Taishan Zhongtianmen Cableway, Houshiwu Cableway, and Taohuayuan Cableway. The three cableways, with Daiding as the center, form the Mount Tai air transportation network connecting Zhongtianmen Scenic Area, Houshiwu Scenic Area and Taohuayu Scenic Area.

The Zhongtianmen Cableway starts from Phoenix Ridge on the west side of Zhongtianmen and goes up to Yueguan Peak on the west side of Nantianmen. Construction began on July 1, 1981, and was completed and opened to traffic on August 5, 1983. The ropeway is a single-carrying, double-traction, three-wire reciprocating type. In 2000, the Zhongtianmen Ropeway was transformed into a single-line circulation automatic detachable cabin-type passenger ropeway. The complete set of equipment was imported from Austria. It was the most advanced passenger ropeway in the country at that time. The operation of the ropeway is all computer-controlled, and the LCD touch screen displays various parameters of the ropeway operation and realizes human-machine dialogue. The running speed of the ropeway is 6 meters per second, and the one-way running time is 5 minutes and 48 seconds. There are 46 8-person cabins on the entire line, and the one-way hourly transport capacity is 1,630 people. In 2003, the fare was 45 yuan/person one way.

The Houshiwu Cableway starts from the Beitianmen on the top of Mount Tai and goes down to the Houshiwu Scenic Area. Construction began on May 28, 1992, and was completed and opened to traffic on August 28, 1993. The ropeway has a total length of 518 meters and a relative height difference of 172 meters. It has a total of 25 double chairlift carriages, a running speed of 3.5 meters/second, and a one-way transport capacity of 500 people per hour. The complete set of electromechanical equipment was introduced from Austria in the 1990s. It is a world-class single-line circular automatic detachable chairlift passenger ropeway in the 1990s and the only automatic detachable chairlift passenger ropeway in China. The Taohuayuan Cableway starts from the Taohuayuan Scenic Area and goes up to the north end of Daidingtian Street. Construction began on May 28, 1992, and was completed and opened to traffic on November 8, 1993. The complete set of electromechanical equipment was imported from Austria. It is a world-class single-line circulating automatic detachable cabin passenger ropeway in the 1990s. It has a total length of 2196 meters and a height difference of 671 meters. It has 49 six-person cabins and a running speed of 5 m/s, with a one-way transport capacity of 1,000 people per hour. In 2003, the fare was 45 yuan/person one way.
