Wenjiang District is located in the west of Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, covering an area of ??277 square kilometers and a population of 349,000. The entire Wenjiang River is located in the hinterland of the Chengdu Plain, with a mild climate and dense river network, making it suitable for agricultural farming. It is known as the "Golden Wenjiang River". The ancient Shu Yufu Kingdom originated here more than 4,000 years ago and has been an important town in western Sichuan since ancient times. After liberation, it became the seat of the Wenjiang Prefectural Committee and Administrative Office, and was placed under the jurisdiction of Chengdu City in 1983.

History of Wenjiang

Wenjiang was liberated on December 26, 1949. In 1950, Sichuan was divided into four administrative areas: Eastern Sichuan, Southern Sichuan, Western Sichuan, and Northern Sichuan. It belongs to the Southwest Administrative Region like Xikang Province. Wenjiang County belongs to the Wenjiang Administrative Region of the Western Sichuan Administrative Region and is governed by the Commissioner's Office of the Wenjiang Administrative Region. In 1952, four administrative areas including Western Sichuan were abolished, and the organizational system of Sichuan Province was restored. Wenjiang County belonged to the Wenjiang Prefecture of Sichuan Province (renamed Wenjiang Region in 1968). As of 1979, it was still under the jurisdiction of the Wenjiang District Administrative Office.

From March to April 1959, Wenjiang County was once merged into Chongqing County, but because it was not approved, it was separated and resettled after only a month. On July 1, 1959, Shuangliu County was merged into Wenjiang County, and its administrative area was Chengguan Town, Wenjiang County. On October 20, 1962, the State Council decided to resettle Shuangliu County. On November 1 of the same year, Wenjiang and Shuangliu were officially separated.

In March 1983, the State Council decided to abolish the Wenjiang area and place most of its administrative regions under Chengdu City. In July of the same year, Wenjiang County was officially affiliated with Chengdu City.

In 1999, it governed: Liucheng Town, Hesheng Town, Tongping Town, Tianfu Town, Jinma Town, Pinghe Town, Wanchun Town, Yongsheng Town, Yongning Town, Yongquan Town, and Tashui Town; Yushi Township, Shouan Township, Liulin Township, Zhenzi Township.

On September 8, 2004, the People's Government of Sichuan Province (Sichuan Civil Affairs [2004] No. 38) agreed to Wenjiang District's revocation of the six towns of Liucheng, Tianfu, Yongquan, Gingping, Tongping and Tashui. There are three townships: Yushi, Zhenzi and Liulin. The original three towns of Liucheng, Yongquan and Gingxin and part of the administrative areas of Tianfu Town implemented the sub-district office management system and established four sub-district offices. The original administrative areas of Yushi Township and Tongping Town were merged into Shouan Town; the people of Shouan Town were stationed in Wujiachang. The administrative areas of the original eight villages of Linjiang, Qijiang, Qingyuan, Guihua, Tieli, Daming, Chunlin and Youyi in Tianfu Town were merged into Hesheng Town; the people of Hesheng Town were stationed in Shujiadu. The administrative areas of the Nanyue Community Neighborhood Committee of the original Tashui Town, Zhenzi Township and the original Liucheng Town were merged into Wanchun Town; the people of Wanchun Town were stationed in Tashui Bridge of the original Tashui Town. The administrative areas of the six original villages of Guangming, Shuanghe, Xingyuan, Xinchun, Wayao and Xinqiao in Liulin Township were merged into Jinma Town; the people of Jinma Town were stationed in Taiji.
