Jilin Songyuan is not a county-level city. Jilin Songyuan is a prefecture-level city and belongs to Jilin Province.

Songyuan is a prefecture-level city established in 1992. It covers an area of ??22,000 square kilometers and is home to 40 ethnic groups including Han, Manchu, Mongolian and Hui. Songyuan is located in the geometric center of Northeast China and the core area of ??the Harbin-Changchun city agglomeration. Songyuan City is located between 123°6′ and 126°11′ east longitude and 43°59′ and 45°32′ north latitude. Six main railway lines including Changxi, Changbai-Wuzhou and Harbin-Dalian, 6 expressways including Beijing-Harbin, Daguang and Hunwu, and 14 national and provincial highway main lines pass through the territory, and Songyuan Chagan Lake Airport is accessible 15 large and medium-sized cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao and Dalian. The water transportation conditions are unique. There are 17 transport terminals and ferries along the Songhua River, with a total berth of more than 5,000 tons. The historical evolution of Songyuan:

Songyuan City was originally named Xincheng. After the founding of the Republic of China, it was changed to Xincheng County in March 1913. It belongs to the Northwest Road of Jilin Province. In February 1914, because it had the same name as Xincheng County in Hebei, Shandong and other provinces, it was ordered to be renamed Fuyu County. In June of the same year, the northwest road was renamed Binjiang Road and belonged to Binjiang Road. In February 1929, the Taoist system was abolished and it was placed directly under the jurisdiction of Jilin Province. After the fall of Northeast China, it came under the jurisdiction of Jilin Province. ?

After the victory of the "September 1993" Anti-Japanese War in 1945, it was initially placed under the jurisdiction of Jijiang Administrative Region, and in May 1946 it was placed under the jurisdiction of Nenjiang Province. In May 1949, it was placed under the jurisdiction of Jilin Province. In 1956, it was affiliated to Gongzhuling Prefecture, and in October 1958, it was affiliated to Baicheng Prefecture. On November 19, 1987, the State Council approved the cancellation of Fuyu County and the establishment of Fuyu City (county level). ?

On June 6, 1992, the State Council approved the abolition of Fuyu City, the establishment of Songyuan City (prefecture level), and the establishment of Songyuan City Fuyu District. On July 20, 1995, the State Council approved the establishment of Fuyu County, which governs part of the administrative areas of Fuyu District, and the county people's government is located in Sanchahe Town. Fuyu District of Songyuan City was renamed Ningjiang District of Songyuan City. In January 2013, with the approval of the State Council, Fuyu County was abolished and Fuyu City (county level) was re-established. The re-established Fuyu City was directly under the jurisdiction of Jilin Province and managed by Songyuan City.
