What is the difference between military maps and ordinary maps?

Most of the base maps of military maps are topographic maps, so the terrain information is marked more accurately. For the convenience of the people, civilian maps generally use geographical maps, and different civilian maps also have different sides. Key points, such as traffic maps, focus on the drawing and labeling of roads, and tourism maps focus on the drawing and labeling of scenic spots, hotels and other locations.

Different map scales: Most military maps are large-scale topographic maps. Large-scale topographic maps in our country have different confidentiality levels due to different scale sizes, and are not accessible to ordinary people. Civilian maps are generally small-scale topographic maps or large-scale geographical maps, and large-scale topographic maps are unlikely to appear.

The geographical characteristics of the mapping area are different: for example, a height difference of tens of meters is not important in mountainous areas, but it is more important in plain areas. This height difference may be difficult to display on civilian maps because of the subject matter. It is not necessary to draw this height difference if the impact is not big, but it must be drawn on military maps.

Different illustration restrictions: The content displayed on military maps and civilian maps is different, so of course their illustrations are different. There are also many differences in symbols, colors, specifications, and brightness differences.

Data quality is different: the type, characteristics, quality, accuracy, completeness, reliability, and currentness of the data used in military maps are incomparable to civilian maps.
