West Sichuan self-driving 3-4 days travel guide
D1: Chengdu - Ya'an - Luding - Kangding - Xindu Bridge.
The first day’s journey is about 400KM. We depart from Chengdu in the morning, pass through Ya’an and cross the Erlangshan Tunnel to Luding. After arriving in Luding, we will visit the Red Army’s flight to capture the Luding Bridge. Afterwards we arrived at Kangding and crossed Zheduo Mountain to Xinduqiao. There are many curves in Zheduo Mountain, so you need to drive carefully. Zheduo Mountain is the first high-altitude place in the entire trip, and high altitude sickness may occur. Overnight in Xinduqiao.
D2: Xinduqiao - Tagong - Bamei - Danba.
The second day’s journey is about 150KM, and the most beautiful scenery in the entire trip is along this section of the road. Get up in the morning and take photos at the most beautiful Ten Mile Corridor in Xinduqiao, then arrive at Tagong, worship at Tagong Temple, feel the power of faith, enjoy the scenery of Tagong grassland, watch yaks grazing, praying flags fluttering in the distance, and overlook the elegant scenery in the distance. Pull the snowy mountains. Afterwards, go to Bamei to view the stone forest, then go down the mountain along the river valley to Danba, where you will visit the most beautiful Jiaju Tibetan Village and Sujiaju Tibetan Village.
D3: Danba - Siguniang Mountain - Balang Mountain - Wolong - Yingxiu - Chengdu.
On the third day, the journey was about 330 kilometers. We got up early in the morning to take pictures of Danba Jiaju Tibetan Village. Then we took a bus to Rilong Town and went to Maobi Bridge to view the panoramic view of Siguniang Mountain. Afterwards, we crossed Balang Mountain, and the scenery on this section of the road was also very beautiful. Arrive in Wolong and visit Wolong Panda Garden to see these lovely giant pandas. Finally, we returned to Chengdu via Yingxiu.
Self-driving is more recommended when traveling in Western Sichuan. The scenery on the road is very beautiful, you can stop and go, it is more flexible and free, and the roads are now repaired and the road conditions are better. Chartering a car in western Sichuan is also very convenient. The local drivers are familiar with the roads and driving is safe and secure. You can charter a car in Chengdu or Kangding.
Precautions for traveling in Western Sichuan
1. The Western Sichuan Plateau has a high altitude. Do not exercise strenuously. You may have headaches, tinnitus and other altitude sickness when you first arrive at the plateau. These are normal conditions. You will gradually adapt.
2. The temperature difference in the plateau area is large, so you should keep warm and wear a hat.
3. Western Sichuan is mostly an ethnic minority area, so local customs must be respected.
4. Ultraviolet rays are strong in plateau areas and sunburn is easy, so sun protection is required.
5. Many hotels and inns in Western Sichuan do not have toiletries, so it is recommended to bring your own.
