The main attractions of Wuhetuohu Wetland Scenic Area
In the autumn of the first year of Hongwu, Zhu Yuanzhang returned to Fengyang to worship his ancestors. The accompanying guests Guo Xing, Marquis of Gongchang, Guo Ying, Marquis of Wuding (a native of Guofu, Wuhe Daxin), and Feiju, the Marquis of Pingliang (a eunuch of Feifu, Wuhe Daxin), saw that Zhu Yuanzhang was in a good mood, so after the sacrifice, they invited Zhu Yuanzhang to visit Tuo. Lake scenery, taste Tuohu crabs. Zhu Yuanzhang saw that they were determined to take the opportunity to honor their ancestors, and since they had followed him for many years and made outstanding achievements, he readily agreed.
The monarch and his ministers crossed the Huai River and Hui River north and arrived at the Qili Temple on the south bank of Tuo Lake. They saw the vast expanse of blue waves of Tuo Lake, with birds flying and fish jumping. Standing, it is pleasing to the eye.
Zhu Yuanzhang was very happy. He sat in the pavilion with his accompanying officials, drank wine in the wind, tasted crabs while watching the scenery, and repeatedly praised: Tuohu crabs are the best in the world. Guo Xing, the Marquis of Gongchang, then said: The Ming Dynasty has been in power for ten thousand years. The two couplets form a whole, making the king and his ministers laugh heartily.
Based on the characteristics of crabs, Zhu Yuanzhang said smoothly: "Crabs are running rampant - each has its own path", "Crabs are bowing - they are right." Over time, it became Wuhe's afterthought.
Later generations renovated the pavilion where Zhu Yuanzhang tasted crabs and called it "Zhu Yuanzhang's Crab Tasting Pavilion". The pavilion is located on the south bank of Tuohu Township, Wuhe County, about 200 meters west of Nianjundu. The original pavilion was destroyed by floods in the late Qing Dynasty. The current pavilion was rebuilt at the original site in October 2004.
At the end of the Yuan Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang, who rebelled against the Yuan Dynasty, was rescued from danger by Miss Yan. While recuperating at Miss Yan's home, the two fell in love.
Later, Zhu Yuanzhang stationed his troops in Tuo Lake, and specially asked Miss Yan to walk along the shore of Tuo Lake, paddle a boat on the beautiful island in the lake, watch fishermen catching crabs, and listen to the cries of water birds. It was a pleasant sight for the two of them. Reluctant to leave, lingering and forgetting to leave, later generations passed it down as a good story and called the island "Lover Island".
Young men and women in love often come to this island to play, making it an excellent place to find love. At the end of the Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, the surface of Tuohu Lake was wide, and Lover's Island was located between the lakes. Later, the area of ??Lover's Island shrank due to soil taken from the Huaihong New River to build embankments.
The Nian Army was a large-scale peasant uprising army that originated in Zhiheji, Anhui (now Woyang County) in the late Qing Dynasty under the influence of the Taiping Rebellion.
On September 27, the fourth year of Xianfeng (1854), Zhang Lexing of the Nian Army Alliance led his troops from Fengyang to Linhuai by land and water. On the 28th, they captured Wuhe County, and Magistrate Di Rong was shot dead. After the Nian Army occupied Wuhe, the Qing guerrilla army (lower-level military camp of the Qing Army) came to fight at Tengjiasheng. The Nian Army marched west to Qili Temple to camp and garrison troops. After the Tengjiasheng was annihilated, the Nian Army recruited fishing boats by Tuo Lake, trained the navy, and crossed north to Tuo Lake. Entering Sizhou, the Nian army left Tuohu on the seventh day of October.
In March of the eighth year of Xianfeng (1858), the Mongolian Nien Army Zhang Long, Li Yun and other troops marched eastward. After occupying Wuhe on the 29th, they also repaired in Tuohu Lake.
The Nian Army helped the distressed and the poor with strict discipline and won the support of the people wherever it went. In order to commemorate the Nian Army, later generations called the ferry where the Nian Army crossed Sizhou northward the "Nian Army Crossing". The ferry originally had a pavilion and a bluestone statue of Zhang Lexing. Tuohu Resort was developed and abandoned in 2008, and there is still one bluestone statue of Zhang Lexing.
In the fifth year of Emperor Gaozu of the Han Dynasty (202 BC), Liu Bang launched a general attack on Xiang Yu and surrounded Xiang Yu in Gaixia. At this time, the 100,000 Chu army was exhausted, morale was low, and was defeated. After Yu Ji committed suicide, Xiang Yu, amidst the sounds of embarrassment from all sides, broke out southward with only 800 cavalry, crossed Tuo Lake and entered the south bank of Tuo Lake to rest briefly. It was found that out of ten boats in Tuo Lake, nine were empty, and people died of hunger everywhere. Xiang Yu stood on the shore of Tuo Lake, looked up to the sky and sighed: "I think of my generation of heroes, but I can't save the people from fire and water. How can I face the world?" Then he drew his sword and stabbed the ground with anger. Strangely enough, when the King of Chu pulled out his sword again, a stream of clear spring sprayed out for more than ten feet. Later generations dug a well here, which was named "Bawang Well".
Local legend has it that there is a well dragon in the Bawang Well, which often goes to the water of Tuo Lake to make rain in the air. Once it was caught by a fisherman who got up early in the morning to relieve herself, and she was so ashamed that she got into the well and never came back. It is also said that Bawang Well is connected to the bottom of Tuo Lake. The water level in the well will also rise when Tuo Lake rises. However, no matter how high the water level in Tuo Lake rises, the water will not come out of the well. Legend has it that it is because there is a well dragon in the well.
As time went by, the "Bawang Well" was abandoned due to the Yellow River's capture of the Huaihe River. It was rebuilt during the Xuantong period of the Qing Dynasty and was discovered in 1995 during the construction of the Huaihong New River. In April 2005, the Anhui Tuohu Nature Reserve Management Office rebuilt a pavilion and erected a monument to commemorate it. It was abandoned when the Tuohu Resort was developed in 2008.
