China Special Economic Zone was born in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and grew up in the 1990s. The establishment of special economic zones marks the further development of China's reform and opening up. So far, there are seven special economic zones in Chinese mainland.

1In July, 1979, the Central Committee and the State Council agreed to carry out pilot projects in Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Shantou in Guangdong Province and Xiamen in Fujian Province. 1980 in may, China central Committee and the State Council decided to rename the four export special zones of Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Shantou and Xiamen as special economic zones. 1In April, 1988, Hainan Special Economic Zone was established.

From 65438 to 0992, after China accelerated the reform and opening-up, the mode of special economic zones shifted to national new districts, and the new special zones in Shanghai Pudong and other national new districts expanded their reforms, which became an important symbol of China's new round of reform.
