Hungarian Immigration Policy 2022

Hungary is a landlocked country in Central Europe and occupies an important position in the EU, NATO and OECD. In addition, Hungary is also a member of the Schengen area and holds a Schengen visa for no more than 90 days every six months. If you want to stay longer, you need to obtain the relevant visa or residence status.

I visa and residence permit 1. Short-term unified Schengen visa (c) Short-term visa holders are allowed to enter Hungary once, twice or multiple times. This visa allows the holder to stay in Hungary for 90 days. The unified visa application must be submitted to the competent representative offices (embassies and consulates) in Hungary.

2. Seasonal Work Visa A seasonal work visa allows the holder to enter the country once or more after working for three to six months. The maximum validity of a visa is one year. Applicants must hold a seasonal work permit issued by the Hungarian Employment Office.

3. Long-term visa (d) and residence permit Foreign citizens from non-EU countries who wish to stay in Hungary for more than 90 days must apply for a long-term residence permit before the foreseeable travel. The Hungarian Immigration Bureau allows applicants to enter Hungary and obtain a long-term visa for a residence permit. They must apply for a residence permit in the same application. The visa is valid for one year and the applicant can enter Hungary once and stay for 30 days. Depending on the intended purpose of staying in Hungary, the following types of residence permits can be obtained:

1) Residence permit can earn income.

Non-EU nationals can obtain this residence permit if they engage in activities as company owners (members) or work within the framework of employment relations. Entry for business purposes requires an invitation letter from an existing Hungarian business partner, proof of business relationship, proof of business relationship of the local chamber of commerce and proof of Hungarian accommodation address.

2) Residence permit for visiting relatives

3) Residence permit for voluntary work

4) Residence permit for investors

Residents of a third country who meet the following conditions can obtain a Hungarian residence permit:

Individuals or commercial organizations holding most shares hold national bonds that meet the statutory standards, especially for this purpose, with a term of at least 5 years and a face value of 30,000 euros; or

An enterprise that issues treasury bonds shall issue treasury bonds according to the amount paid by the applicant within 45 days from the date of issuance of residence permit.

Non-EU citizens can enter Hungary under special circumstances:
