The largest Buddha statue in China

The largest Buddha statue in China is the Leshan Giant Buddha in Sichuan.

Completely speaking, the Leshan Giant Buddha is the largest cliff-carved Buddha statue in my country. People also call it the "Lingyun Giant Buddha". It is located on the east bank of the Minjiang River in Leshan, Sichuan, adjacent to Lingyun Temple. The Leshan Giant Buddha is a seated Maitreya Buddha with a height of 71 meters. It was built in the first year of Kaiyuan of the Tang Dynasty and completed 90 years later in the 19th year of Zhenyuan.

The Leshan Giant Buddha faces the river with green mountains behind it. Its head is 14.7 meters high and 10 meters wide. It has 1021 buns on its head. It is worth mentioning that the Leshan Giant Buddha's feet are 8.5 meters wide, and the entire foot can seat more than 100 people. The entire Buddha is exquisitely designed and has a special drainage system inside, which is why the Buddha has not been eroded to this day.

Visitors can follow the plank road on the left side of the Buddha to reach the bottom of the Buddha. Looking up, they can experience the meaning of "the mountain is a Buddha, and the Buddha is a mountain". The plank road on the right side of the Big Buddha can be climbed to the top of Lingyun Mountain, where you can take a closer look at the head of the Big Buddha. Today, the Leshan Giant Buddha and its surrounding Lingyun Mountain, Wuyou Mountain, Giant Reclining Buddha, etc. constitute the Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area. In 2011, the scenic area won the title of National 5A Tourist Attraction.
